    Default I already know everything...

... so tear the universities down! I'm around 1750 and in the horizon is the moment when I will have discovered everything. I'm thinking of tearing the universities down once I reach that point, but it seems something so uncivilized to do!

Maybe research should be made a little more difficult, so in a typical game you would still be researching stuff towards the end. And universities don't become obsolete! There are things that seem out of place in the mid-18th century like steam engines. Although basic steamships existed towards the end of that century, steam warships were not used until around 1850.

I was also thinking of closing the seminaries once the region is 100% of my religion, but at this point I have so much money there's no need. I'll keep them just for variety and their marginal effect on happiness. I would like to keep the universities for the same reason (and for the prestige, although I also have tons of that), but they are harmful. Pity.

    You need more armies. :-)

Personally, I revel in the moment when I can torch all those bastions of Liberal ideology, and I can scour their existence from the face of my empire. Once they are gone, the peasants will be totally under the control of my iron fist.

That's not correct, sorry. The peasants are already under the control of the iron fists of Abraham Licoln and me... it started back in 1492 when we invented the wheel, and discovered that it can be used to store stuff on top of it when it would stand on a very very even surface.
With that power, it was easy to gain the upper hand and establish a galactic empire deploying medichlorians... but I'm getting carried away, nevermind.
