    Default About recruitment

    First of all: great mod. Lots of detail, beautiful units. IJ is also a lot more balanced than the original Invasio Barbarorum, which is important. I had some problems with CTD's when trying it out a while ago, but since deleting the quotes files they are only occasional.

    I have a question about the recruitment system:

    Playing as Rome, I noticed that as you upgrade your buildings, levy units such as Auxilia and Milites are gradually replaced with more professional troops, and local units like tribal germans, steppe- and desert warriors available at lower tier barracks gets replaced by more "romanized" units later on. This is all very good.

    However, in some regions the system seems broken or unfinished. In Petra, for example;
    • According to the building browser, building a Militia Barracks in Petra enables recruitment of "Desert Auxiliares" and "Auxiliary Desert Archers". The higher tier barracks doesn't enable anything!
    • The Auxilia Stables gives you "Equites Dromedarii", "Desert Cavalry" and "Arab Mercenary Cavalry". Cavalry Stables switches recruitment to "Equites Promotii" only. Comites Stables still allows "Equites Promotii", but also gives you back "Equites Dromedarii".

    This can't be intentional, can it? Will it be fixed in the next version?

    Well the intention here is that it is not always the wise thing to keep building "palatine" barracks everywhere, so if you notice that when you upgrade from say an army barracks to a palatine one and it showa thatno troops are available, then you don't upgrade.

    In the new IJV3.0, the recruting has been rather radically altered to basically reflect the major recruiting areas of the empire, with some exceptions for gameplay.

    I will explain this in more detail when I release V3.0, very very soon.

    Ok.

    But in that case I think it would be better if the recruitment options stayed the same even after the upgrade - no extra troops, just a public order boost and maybe an experience bonus.

    Anyway, thanks. I'm very much looking forward to the new version. The previews look great.

    I say better to build buildings that improve happiness, health, trade and farming trather then barracks. Of course you can always upgrade your weapons and armour by building blacksmith, fabricae buildings.
