    Default Galatia Help

Okay I've done two campaigns with Galatia on H/M and I like them quite a bit there's only one problem. How do I win? I can't really see how one is supposed to win as Galatia when you,

    - Start with only one territory.
    - Your economy is doomed.
    - Have to deal with Pontus and Seleucid.
    - Starting army is to small.

My two campaigns went like this.

1st Campaign - I allied with Seleucid and Pontus. Sent army to take Northern coastal cities (for the eco boost). Pontus moves west (the only way it can go if it doesn't want to fight Seleucid or Armenia) and runs into me. It doesn't take long for us to start fighting and after a two and a half years I've reduced them to one city and I'm sieging it.

Now I have absolutely NO TROOPS anywhere else and almost all of my cities are at like 90% happiness (cause Galatians are hated everywhere I guess ) and here comes Seleucid up with two half stacks attacking my capital and my largest money making city. With me barely making 200 a turn (I have like -12,000 btw) the Seleucids crush my dream of making any money.

So I crush Pontus (that makes me only a little happy) and I try to go fight off Seleucid (I'm now at -16,000) and take back my cities. I fight my two last victorious battles and here comes another stack of around 600. I have like 150 men and most of them are cavalry(from the family members) or light infantry. I admit defeat and quit, starting another to see if I could do better that time.

2nd Campaign - I immediately strike out against Pontus, again allying with Seleucid (as they are bigger). And crush them within the year. My eco is extremely good (as I only have like -3000 when I start making 5-600) so I'm building, being happy and here comes Seleucid again! (oh big blue you destroyer of dreams ) One full stack this time again at my capital. I send my small 500 man army to defeat it and after a fierce battle I'm victorious, with heavy losses sadly.

Annoyingly another half stack comes and attacks me from the east. Now I have to hurry to defend once again (and with no roads it takes like 2 turns to get to the other city). I move as quickly as I can but the stack attacks my city (with only 122 people in it) and captures it and kills one of my family members. So I'm moving to take it back and I get attacked by some other stack from Seleucid. I fight and I emerge victorious but with only an army of 180 or so. I move to take the city (as my eco is bombing and I need it bad) and they sally forth and attack me. I fight hard but I'm crushed. I have no army to speak of and another Seleucid stack is coming to attack my capital. I once again admit defeat.

Okay now that you've heard my tale of woe can someone please help me out? I've had to start new campaigns with a faction before I got the hang of it but Galatia seems too hard. With a horrible starting position and having to deal with Pontus and Seleucid I don't see how Galatia could ever win. With the AI primed on the "kill human player" thing theres no way that Galatia can build up before they are targeted by the Seleucids and once that happens theres no way to win, that I can see.

I'm going to try again and see If I can weasel my way to fight to a spot near the Sarmatians and leave Seleucid to deal with Pontus and Armenia but can someone please help me out with this?

I haven't played as Galatia, I just wanted to note that in the last couple of games I've played, the AI has managed to create a little cross-Hellespont empire, even getting into Macedon, before being destroyed by the Seleucids and Greeks. AI Galatia seems to rise quickly, then fall quickly.

First of all, set campaign difficulty to Medium. That should give you more time to take out Pontus before dealing with big Blue. And then proceed to blitz Pontus/take rebel cities as your economy demands, and then move against the western TSE holdings.

The third campaign is the charm! Its 272 B.C. and I'm still alive! I blitzed Seleucid and allied with Ptolemy (who strangely agreed to duel attack Seleucid) I've taken 4 cities from Seleucid, including Peragumum (sp), and I'm making 3k a turn now and slowly rising. This sure is one of the hardest factions I've had to play with (the beginning battles sure are key) though I think its smooth sailing from now on. I'm hoping that I can take all of Asia minor by 260 B.C. but we'll see just how much resistance Seleucia puts up .

Thanks for the replies guys .

IME, the Galatians do as Arkaeyn described when you're not playing them. I can understand how it would be a hard faction to play, though.
