    Default Selecting City/Port auto-selects army/navy

    Hi all,

I haven't seen any comment on this around this forum, so plz hear me out.

I think it's annoying to automatically have the movement range of, for example, an army showing when I cycle through my cities on the campaign map.

(I admit my PC is just a tad over minimum specs, but even for people with a proper computer this must have been noticeable).

I had a particular delay in playing when I had captured Paris in my first 'Dutch' game: every time when I scrolled through my cities with <,> an <.> keys, I would be waiting for a good ten to twenty seconds when the selection skipped to Paris. This was due to the fact, that selecting the city meant that the game had to calculate the movement range for the units in the city. (Aparently, this takes longer for France then for most other regions (France has rough ground, I bet )).

Anybody have a clue why CA made it so, that when selecting a city, without the intention of doing ANYTHING with my units, those units are still automatically selected? Why did they bother to put an 'Army' tab in the info screen?

Same goes for ports with navies in them. Why would I want to know the range of a navy in a port when I'm browsing my build options for the port itself? If I want to know the range, I'll select the navy myself.

Well, I hope everybody understands what I'm talking about, anyone else find this annoying? I hope that in a future patch there will be an option for 'Auto-selecting units in City/Town/Port' On or Off.

    Greetz,

I understand perfectly what you are talking about and quite simply its bad design.

Many of the mechanics for normal interaction between the player and the game are appallingly amateurish. Information that has no value is being retained on the screen even though you have moved on,even to another continent.

For me its actually a joke how unfinished the game is.

Hmmm, i'm surprised to see my topic moved to Technical help, as it has nothing to do with a technical problem. Ah well, glad to see i'm not the only one who finds this a poor aspect of gameplay design.
