They just sit...and look pretty?

Hello all,

new member here, registered for this forum so I could ask a question.

I'm playing Empire Total War on VH/H settings with Poland-Lithuania.

Currently i'm in the year 1731, which means I've been playing a good while into a campaign. One thing that I cannot understand so far is, how is it possible that besides me, no other AI-Nation even thinks about expanding its borders?

Europe: Nothing has changed, Except for Russia taking a few provinces
Americas: Nothing has changed
India: Nothing has changed.

Sure the AI-Nations have a go at me, currently fighting a war with the Italian States over Venice, but they only attack me....

I thought (or would have expected) the United Provinces to go for Flanders, but nope, after 30 years, its still Spanish. Same thing for Prussia. I read here on the forums that they're supposed to be a war machine, but I've been at peace with them for 30 years and they have not so much as looked across the borders!

How do you guys experience this?

I often see Austria getting ripped apart by Poland and Prussia, the three of them are often at war with each other in a three way war in most of my games.

The United Provinces did take Flanders in one of my games where I didnt play as them.

Nothing really special happens though, I havent seen huge powers emerge exept for Brittain but thats because they are unbalanced from the start.

Nope, 100% pure install.

The lack of AI vs AI intelligence is making the game feel less realistic to me, wouldn't it be awesome to watch a huge war between AI nations? Seems like all they care about is what YOU do , not look at each other at all

really? in my game as prussia sweden, denmark and russia is really duking it out, with sweden having taken norway and denmark and russia having taken st.petersbourgh and finland, poland and austria was having a go at it too until poland declared war on me. finally in america the irouqes are beating the living hell out of the french

It really depends on the luck of the draw... My first campaign the british conquered most of Europe before I even arrived. In my current campaign though Courland has conquered most of middle and Eastern Europe while the British and French are pretty small.

I personally like how things differ since in the real world one small change in history would've changed the outcome of the world also.

playing as Spain, I gave Flanders up to Westphalia to secure our friendship. Dutch immediatley attacks and is only rebuked by Westphalian citizens and a Militia detachment on my behalf, though I lost them.

I have since given Amsterdam to them as well, and they are now a substantial european empire, I hope to do the same to Barvaria with Prussian territories.

Britain really aren't unbalanced from the start when played by the AI. The naval invasions bug stops them from ever expanding in Europe or India, so when played by the AI they're actually one of the most underpowered factions.

But they have the most money, troops, and navy. They just don't know to use it. In every campaign I have played, Britain towers above everyone else in the prestige rating, with a gargantuan militrary and naval prestige.

I read somwhere in this forum, that the AI gets more aggresive on higher unit scale. Although i cant think about an explanation for that, and i cant realy say if its true, cause i always play on ultra.

I saw sweden and russia in different campains getting eastern europe till saxony but thats it.

I find that in some games the ai is passive and in other games I find one of the factions goes crazy and starts gobbling up evrything.I dont know what causes it though

I can understand what you are saying. In my campaign maps almost nothing changes excpet my faction killing others .

Like Inhuman One said - I see a lot of wars between Poland, Austria and Prussia. Maratha Confederacy and Mughal Empire are also fighting a lot.

Beside these two wars, I can barely see that something is happening.

Iv heard people say that they have seen America conquer evrything in America but I find that impossible with the current ai and they would be able to take the carribean without naval invasions.
I also heard people who have said Russia conquered all of the Ottoman empire which I kind of believe since in my current campaign Russia have just defeated Georgia,Deagstan and the ottoman region below it which gave me quite a surprise,i realy hope they expand even further

In my game russia is gobbling up the ottoman empire, and the marathas are expanding really slowly.

I find that only a few things can/will happen.

Prussia will sometimes take Silesia, Russia will take Crimea OR (heaven forbid it move in two directions) Ingria/Estonia. Poland will occasionally take Estonia as well. I've seen Spain take Portugal and the Maratha Confederacy will take most if not all of Mughal territory if given enough time.

That's about all the territorial changes I've seen in my games.

lol.. in one of my games, the UP went berserk and started attacking and conquering everything and everyone. It was only because of the insane amount of units some one region factions generate that their mad advance was slowed..

In one of my old games, Poland-Lithuania had a massive empire consisting of half of Russia, most of the Balkans and central Europe. Prussia annihilated Austria, but then Poland-Lithuania did the same to them. The Dutch captured Flanders, but then lost it back to the French, who also destroyed Savoy. The Maratha Confederacy took most of the Indian peninsula. Sweden expanded into Denmark and too some small Baltic provinces but ultimately lost them to Poland-Lithuania. The Ottoman Empire got Florida from Spain in some sort of deal I think, given that they were not at war. The Iroquis took Washington, the United States emerged, went to war with the Thirteen Colonies, and then took the upper colonies.

All of that was whilst playing a lazy British game so there was absolutely no intervention on the mainland and very little in America. None in India. And I've also seen Spain destroy Portugal.

I sorta agree with the OP. I don't see anything too exciting. For some reason, in every single one of my campaigns, Sweden always takes over Denmark in mainland Europe. Aside from that, I don't see too much change.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I did once see Mugal Empire get a region in South America, and expanded a bit.

In my current Prussian game it's 1776 and the Marathas have all of India except for Ceylon (which is just a rebel province) and are pushing into Europe, having taken Afghanistan and Baluchistan from Persia. I'm a little scared they'll keep going and start interfering with my conquest of the Ottomans.

I've also seen some really strange things happen in my other campaigns, such as Bavaria taking over 5-6 provinces in Central Europe and then losing them all to Austria. Prussia once got totally destroyed by Poland once- the only time I've seen a major faction killed off by the AI. I also once reduced Poland to one province and made her my protectorate, only for her to turn around and conquer half of Russia.

The AI are quite active in most of my games, so I guess it just varies by campaign.
