Does anyone know any tricks for increasing a General/family member's loyalty? The loyalty is always empty for all my family members and generals; i never see it increase. Am i just a terrible leader?

Make them governor of a town, that will slowly make them more loyal... it will take years though.

About Loyalty in SPQR 7.0
----------------------------------------------
SPQR will now have loyalty. Loyalty is affected by several factors.
1. A General is TOO successful on a Battlefield, Watch how many Victories your General Gets, There is no set number for loyalty loss, but it gives you a
Good Idea if you have been using him TOO much. lol
2. A General is Away from the Cities of Rome too Long. Sometimes this cannot be avoided, but LONG campaigns can effect them a little.
3. A General is getting too Much Political Support. This isnt too much of a Worry since the Senate doesnt choose your faction for Offices, but it still happens.
If you are the type of player that uses one General to do battle, I should warn you to watch his loyalty as him may not be as loyal as his was before.
Also if you find a General is getting low on Loyalty you can retire him to Governorship, there is a chance he can regain Loyalty once he tastes the good life again.
It is Possible for Characters/Generals to Gain upto 5 Loyalty Rings by being a Governor, of course remote rich Provinces could cause a Governor to rebel Outright. lol
Learn to Manage your Generals and Family Members, remember just because they have 0 Loyalty doesnt mean they wouldnt make a good governor!
Generals and Family Members aquire Governor Traits the longer they spend in the position, so just because a Young General isnt a good governor yet,
Give him time and you will see how much better he becomes at the job!

i bring the more disloyal one's closer to home and send the more reliable out to the boarders, but Hesus' post is pretty much all we know

well ... must admit I have send some of those lost cases off on reckless missions from time to time
![]()
basically you are right, but it depends on the "type" of reckless mission ...for sure I will not let that kind of general be the legate for my favorite legions
![]()
It is against house rules to put them on single ships and leave them some where in the ocean to get killed by pirats.
35. Do Not take the generals or characters you dont like and kill them by placing them in a ship to be sunk, you have to take the good with the bad, its part of the game.

what do you mean leaving him in a vunarable position and 'forgeting' to turn skirmishing on-lol
The barbarians are keen on using assassins in my campaign, leaving a general out in the middle of no where on the border usually does the trick![]()
Basically yes, it is against house rules and you should try not to do that. But honestly, sooner or later they will lose their loyalty, and it aint easy to have so many generals on a front and enough place to house them in.

I don't mean to disrespect but I've always felt the negatives greatly outweigh the positives within the loyalty system. For me, most, if not all of my generals become totally disloyal. The game becomes "what do I do with all of these disloyal generals". I'm all for historical accuracy but even in the later years of the empire with all the corruption I don't believe all Roman generals were that disloyal. Of course this is just my opinion and I'm sure there will be many who disagree. In order for me to keep the loyalty system and still have fun with the game I tweaked the export_descr_character_traits file.![]()
well... "too many generals"... Each town can hold 20 units, and you have what, like 9 cities at the start, so you got place for atleast 180 disloyal generals already from start, haha.
Don't forget that they occasionally die from time to time, be it natural causes, battles or assassins. I usually swap my generals from the legions after about 15-20 years of service, or when they are at 1-2 loyalty points left. From that stage it takes 2-3 years to get them back to about 3 loyaltypoints. I like the loyalty system, that I have to take into account not just replenishing the legions, but seeing to that the right people are leading them too. It's another bit of the puzzle that makes up the whole logistical experience with SPQR, which I find unique to this mod.

when i have a disloyal general i dont do anything about it. i just let him finish what he was doing(take a couple of cities probably) and then let him relax there. in the real world a general being disloyal wont make that clear to his boss as he would then not be given the amount of troops he wants for some rebelion he might have been planning. know what i mean?
cnaeus,
Challange Macedon, and die trying
I think that you have to extend that rule far far northI mean, its simple to have them charge entire enemy stack.
