first time modder

im looking to mod rome total war to make it fun. pitting one class of units against another. but i dont know how to mod. i know you download it but then what. and also if i mod my game how can i get it back to its original state. the problem bieng that i downloaded it have no cds for it.or if i downloaded many mods how do i use each one

You do not have to download a mod in order to mod, though it is good to learn from mods (if more people did this then there would be less questions asked!)

If you mod in a modfolder then there is no need to touch original game files. Many mods are modfoldered so you can see how they've done it; for a very simple example of how to mod units into a modfolder for RTW 1.5 I'd recommend the small (20 meg) Multi-Mod Sampler (see my sig).

i tried the multi-mod sampler and i couldnt install i think it was because i DOWNLOADED the game .when i tried to put mms in rometotalwar_setup_1
it just took me to setup and asked me if i wanted to remove rome. can you guide ito doing this

Download it. Double-click it. Make sure the path in the installer is set to point to your RTW directory (the folder with the exe files in it) and you're done!

I made some videos for Viking Invasion II (see sig) which guide your through the installation process. It is the same process for most modfoldered mods, including MMS.
