Trade with non-trade ships = Nice bug?

I got lucky tonight with this and was wondering if this is just another bug in the bug-fest or if its suppose to be like this...

I knocked an enemy off of a tradepost but I had no tradeships to put on the post... So I sent a steamship onto the post and sure enough it started flashing with the golden coins flag thing and my trade screen started to show I was receiving goods from that trade theatre.

So is this something we can always do or is it a bug? Not sure what the point of tradeships would be then?

Its a bug, and a funny one .

Usually(when you dont have this bug), you can trade in trade theatres only with trade ships.

Did you see a trade line appear because any ship on that spot will start the flashing animation? It is very likely that you had another ship on a spot nearby and its trade appeared on the trade screen.

Or it is a bug.

Exactly, normally you will only get money if you have a tradeship.

THe flashing gold coin show up all right, but I don't think you get money. Did you actually see a trade route coming out from the node?

check after one turn if its still flashing and you still get the goods and the money! Its a bug if all the answers are yes!

The battleships I park on the trade spots to claim them before the AI can get their filthy fingers on it flash, too, but they don't trade
