    Default Bangkok in emergency!!!

So, finally after a few week of protest Bangkok is proclaimed emergency today after ASEAN leaders were forced to evacute yesterday and Thai PM flee Bangkok today.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7995606.stm

The protestors ask the PM resign and reelection; the problem is it seems Thai government does not agree those term (remember, current Thai government is not formed by an election) and probably decides to use army (stongly back up current government, not surprised since current government was formed by a military coup last year) to put down the protest.

    Your thought?

Nice. Sometimes that's the only reaction you get. Seems likes it's just nothing but bad news in the world. There's always some coup, some major protest, some crisis of some sort.

Well, in a sense its very surprising Thailand fell victim to this. The country is the only real economical prospering one the SE-Asian mainland, and the only one with large population numbers.

I think their highly respected King will sort things out, and I cant imagine the Thais going any more nuts then they go now.

Surprising? Riots seem to be a yearly occurrence in Thailand.

I don't think it's an emergency. It's not as if the ladyboys are rebelling or anything.

The current Thai government was formed by a Yellow-Shirt coup, not a military coup... The reason the military supported it was because it didn't want to have to put down the protests....

Yellow-Shirt was just protesting; Thai military seized the oppoturnity and proclaimed they would do the job for people.

I suggest immediately conduct a new election, because current government is not formed by any general election.

I sympathise with the want for free elections, but I'm not really a fan of Thaksin Shinawatra.

Well, the point of free election is not voting who you like.

Anyway, Thaksin would not join the election because he is, in the end, a criminal.

The Thai modern urban society has big problems indeed, but the average people are the nicest I experienced my whole life. And the country side though has another society apart from all these problems. When a farmer or worker or whatever gets sick the entire village makes sure the family gets what they need. They have a very cohesive society and admirable traditions in these large rural areas.

Its the moloch Bangkok and these tourist hell holes often showing a more despicable side.

Got to love the Thai though, inventors of the most effective MA(Thai-boxing) and these dudes where never colonized although all the other nations surrounding them where.

A buddy of mine was trying to talk me into moving to Thailand after I retired from the Corps. It was something I was seriously considering. He had moved there after retiring himself to start a export business, but got involved in diplomatic security consultation for a local hotel instead.

A few days before I made my decision, by chance, I sat in on a lecture at Lejeune about the region and the rise of fundamental Islam, specifically in Thailand. It also covered instability as a whole.

    I decided not to go.

That's good, because I could envision you having a Gran Torino moment with those damn asian gangsters disobeying the law and whatnot.

Hey guys, what's the capital of Thailand?
