Removing backpacks

I've tried to remove the ugly and unrealistic backpacks from the game, but while editing the texture files kind of removes them, in their place i now have these flickering shadows that are even worse.

So if anyone knows how to remove them "properly", i'd greatly appreciate the info

I think it's to do with the warscape_equipment_themes and the equipment column. I would suggest erasmus777's great mod which does this already though.
