Guess you ignored the part towards the end that explains why they do it though obviously they *shouldnt* be doing it it is far from your melodramatic thread post. Oh and just fyi think it was back in 2001 a California representive got into alot of trouble after she pressed the button for a Republican member against his will (voting opposite of what he intended) after he stepped away from his desk for a moment.

The reason why they do it (so many votes, they can't find the time) sounds more worrying to me than the OP.

I mean: how can you expect politicians to make careful, well thought out decisions if even the two seconds or so to vote for each issue adds up to a significant proportion of their time?
They clearly have way too many votes for democracy to function properly.

What Farnan said, its not like they arent there for major or even important issues to vote on but almost always the nonsense procedural votes. Hell alot of them are motions to continue the discussion to talk about whether or not something should or shouldnt be debated! It is another reason why the op's conclusions are absurd as Ill bet anything the vast majority of that button pushing is simply for symbolic votes or procedural stuff. Its almost comical watching some of these events and votes on stupidest thing, hell the lady at the end who was explaining it should just call for a vote to take a piss

I don't think the voting procedures of the Texas Legislature are indicative of Democracy in America as a whole.

Not a good way to spend money, but its a way for state legislators to gain votes from their home county without use of major tax money so its a lessor evil.

Its bureaucracy...what exactly do you expect? And no I dont find it worrying if some guys in suits want to vote on whether they should talk about beginning to talk about something anymore then I imagine any EU people found it worrying time was wasted on banana specs. More these guys waste time doing nothing the better it is imo, its when they get to actually doing stuff that I start worrying.

Then all of those people caught on camera should be jailed.

The votes arent against the wishes, if you watch the end most of it is people in bathrooms etc and their colleagues pushing the button for them. Most of the votes are probably procedural type nonsense too. Yes it is "against the rules" but lets avoid tossing people in jail cause someone had to go take a piss k?

Since Legislature Votes are public there is no way to vote a way a legislature wouldn't want to.

Its the state legislatures they have a lot of "feel good" votes where they vote on awarding the thanks of the State Legislature to groups and people. Those votes are ones that everyone votes yes on, so that may even have been one of those.
