Game crashes on battle map

I bought medieval 2 from steam and after the 2-3 day long download process, I finally installed, problem is it crashes at the battle map, uninstalled it and tried again, same problem. However the demo i got of rome total war works and plays just fine, and I have had no problems with steam what so ever, but this game seems to be a problem, my comp more then meets the system requirements (Windows XP 2.0 ghz, ATI Radeon x1600 agp Pro, 2 gigs of ram...yeah my comps kinda sad, the ones at my school are better then this, and my school has its own urban dicitionary entry thats less then favorable but I digress), is it my settings or is it steam?

Since your system is minimum, put your settings on minimum. What version of the game are you trying to play battles?

not quite sure but its on steam, and apparently the patch number are different but it was 1.03 last I checked

1.03 is Medieval2, not Kingdoms of means you don't have Kingdoms installed, at least correctly. Sounds like reinstall time.
