in my humble opinion, you should start the mod with less factions, otherwise it will take too much time to do it, and eventually it will probably end up dead

The first version will contain just the basic factions (about ten), other versions will have more factions

ok, give me a week or two and i have a basic map set up in a modfolder for you. based on the reference map above i can probably do some rough ground types to.
i must say that the classic era south/central america really tickles my interest. some years back i got into reading about the rise and fall of dos pilas from a simple village to a rebellious city state. what is know of this area/era is foggy at best, but what is decifered from the stelas is quite intriguing. city states at war, rise and fall of great empires and sub-kingdoms within sub-kingdoms.

yes i am from UTW. Where is Brian? It's raining today, i need my umbrella.

No seriously, pakal has some unpacking problems and i'm a noob in modding, it could be cool if you help him.
For the factions, 10 is enough i think(for a first version).

    Researchs are almost all done.

The modding progress is about 0.000123541% (just about) and the release date is not planned.
