unlocking factions

I just bought MTW II/Kingdoms Gold edition from Best Buy. Can anybody tell me how to unlock all the other factions. I only have 5 to choose from. I bought the original game years ago but I forgot if what I have to do is to conquer the factions to unlock them. Thanks in advance.

either destroy that faction on the campaign map and it will be playable, win the campaign and they all become playable, or if you don't want the bother go into the descr.strat file (find it here C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign) and cut and paste the unlockable factions into the playable area, best not to move the aztecs, mongols or timurids though, i think it's ok to move the papal states.
