Campaign map lag

I just recently bought MTW2 gold after years of playing MTW1 and mods.
My problem is when i scroll around the campaign map it lags over Europe so bad and any movements in this area are extremely slow. When i scroll to the edge of the screen or over England it returns to normal pace.

PC specs:
Q9450 quad core
ATi 4870 512mb
500gb HDD
4gb Ram
Vista Home Premium 32bit

I dont have any trouble with battles, sieges or other parts of the game, just the campaign map (where i spend 70% of the time playing).

Ive tried clean re-install, updated CCC drivers to 9.3 and still massive lag over this region. Settings are set to default and no shadows.

My PC can play all of the newer games easily so i am confused why this campaign map lags.

If this has been covered before please link me to the correct thread. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lag over the Alps? How about the German forests? It's the way the game handles them, not your rig.

Try turning off campaign map shadows. That lags my game a lot.

It helps when you turn shadows, thanks, D.B., glints, grass, and turning all unit and building detail to minimum or off.
