Default Help us with placeholder units

DOTS really needs a few new team members to form a department specifically to make placeholder units.

These units will follow our research.

We plan to have around 300+ NEW units which will entail using units from vanilla and opensource mods, we will need new names and stats, and in some cases where possible, abilities from other units.

It will be painstaking work but very rewarding and very important to the entire mod. If you are interested in this please PM me straight away.

This is basically writing the code for these units into EDU or some such file, yes?
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

I can do it, and will do it, but only because this mod look's so awesome. I've worked with the EDU before... so I know how it works... where do I sign up?
(and why do I have a feeling I'll do a lot of work but get no rep because I'll be one of the unknown positions in the mod team unlike mappers and modelers and stuff...)

So, ok. I want to help too. I never worked with edu or things like that, but as I saw it's only file full of tags and only thing is to learn to read it. But maybe I'm wrong. Acctualy I'm programmer, so I hope it won't be a problem to learn something new to help this awersome mod. If you are interested in someone who want to help, but don't know how, just write me PM.

You are right, the EDU is simply a file full of tags and is also the best documented of all M2TW files, so it should be easy to learn - especially considering that you are a programmer! You should definately join.

Jon Snow, PM Hross now! Work for DotS just to be part of the experience and to get it released, not for rep .

motyc: all the best modders are self taught. If you have programming experience, then it will be an easy task, so i suggest you read up on what it involves, then PM Hross. All you have to do is write some simple code out, the researchers and balancers will give you all the values and model directories etc.

And since you are a programmer, you can program a program that will help you with the edu.

I think I'll throw my lot with you... But I although don't have a clue about the most advances aspects of EDU modding in the M2TW and RTW engines, I have a basic knowledge. I trust that I can learn a lot, but the most important part is that I am willing to put my dedication into it, so count me in.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."
