He did. Since I made that one specifically for him, so he could fix the traits in DTW.

Excellent work, RedFox. These "simple" tools shall helps modders all over. I know that I shall be using them.

CaesarVincens: Are you very busy working on XC? I could help you guys out with some models or other misc. work if you join in with helping to un-break DTW. Suppanut is being of great help, but I think we need more brains to really fix it. It just doesn't make sense and there is nothing wrong with unit ownerships or recruitment... Let me know if you're interested. My XFire is redfox20

I'm not terribly busy with XC right now, but I am with RL. So for now I'll have to say sorry. If I could look at the files I might be able to notice something, but until things settle down with RL I can't do any thorough checking. I don't have Xfire unfortunately, but I check the forums regularly, so PMs are good as well.

BTW, I noticed an error in your EDB validator; I made a post about in its thread.

Alright, I'll take a look. I don't have much time either since the final examinations are coming up, but I also want to release the mod sometime soon, before I entirely disappear. You could always download XFire though. It's a fast way to communicate with Zarax, Suppanut etc..

Well, if you don't mind sharing your problem with me, by PM if you prefer, I might have some ideas about what's happening just from that; things to double check, etc.

There's no need for any specific PM. The problem is simple - the game crashes randomly with random factions. Not sure what is the problem. What is NOT the problem however: Unit recruitment and ownership is 100% OK in all files.
Typically the crash happens around 12 or more turns and if not, then there are random crashes late in the game. Even if all traits, ancillaries, advice, extra scripts, background scripts etc have been disabled.
The game will run without any crashes if the campaign only has a few factions, for example Rome, Macedon and Slave. I have been suspecting a problem with family trees, but I'm not sure at all. To sum up, we have no clue at all what is the cause and this bughunting has been going on non-stop for 3 months without any results.

Hm... That is frustrating. Ok, one thing, you mention family trees, are there any named characters that are not part of the family tree? I've read that can cause problems.

Could you point out any specific rules about the family trees? I've been probably doing them all wrong and someone was kind enough to note that the family tree needs to be upside down in certain cases..
And another thing, what the hell does "rebelling_characters_active" do?

I really don't know that much about descr_strat, especially family trees; the only real modding I did of it was to create the Epirus and Pergamon provincial campaigns for XGM.

But anyway, the issue I was talking about is sometimes known as a "cloned character." What happens is that for some reason if you have a named character coded into descr_strat not as part of the family tree, that is not related to the faction leader, or maybe not to anyone, I'm not sure, the game engine will clone that character as an adopted or married son for the AI, but not the human player. This means that there are two of the same person running around. What happens is that one dies and that causes the CTD. So if you are getting random CTD during the AI turn, that's something to look at. If you talk to DaVinci, he might be able to help more, because Chivalry ran into this problem a while back.

As for rules for family trees, I'd just say, make sure you use tabs and not spaces, make sure you have all your commas, and the end note, and start with the smallest one possible.

If you can send me the descr_strat (or give me access to the latest build), I can take a look, and try some things.

Well, we pretty much DID remove all family trees and it still crashed. I replaced descr_names with the vanilla one and added a few necessary names. If you can somehow get xfire and add me: redfox20, I can give you access to the repository..
