Is there any way to repair Osgiliath? It seems a shame that even after I've started rebuilding the city, the battle map still shows a complete ruin.
Yes, if you get it to max size. At least in MOS this is so.

Hello,
I am playing Third age 3.2 without any submods and i was wondering something about buildings of other races when you conquer a settlement.
Is there any benefit to take them down and make your own, or will they function just as well? Do the other race buildings have any negative effects?
Welcome. Unlike regular Medieval 2, the buildings of another culture do not add to unrest. The only time you might want to demolish is when you can't use the building, such as a Troll Training Ground if you are a Good Faction. You get some money from the demolition, and if the enemy recaptures the settlement they will not have the troll building ready.
Welcome to TWC Miscá
No, there's no need to demolish buildings from other cultures: they work as well for you too, give you no penalties and it would cost you more to demolish them and then rebuild them to the same level again

Is there a way to promote a "Man of the Hour" captain to General, instead of adopting him to the Royal family? It makes more sense to me, to make him a general for his deeds, not taking him as a child of the king.
Good question, never heard that before while I've been of like mind
Suggest you ask the question in the Mod Workshop here, where the M2 modders gather, and please report back if you get any encouraging replies![]()

I always interpreted it as the leader of the faction marrying the hero to a distant cousin or niece or other noblewoman.
The adoption scenario is a very Roman one, and I assume it's a 'Rome 1' (or even M1 heritage?) concept not quite properly adapted to a medieval scenario. Both direct adopted generals and 'Man of the Hour' can marry after the adoption after all.
If Man of the Hour would been offered as just generals (as suggested abve) or to becoem a family member if you have an unmarried daughter etc it would been more interesting![]()

Is it possible to play without the custom settlements? They are quite well done but the AI often has absolutely no idea how to handle them, so units will sit outside walls in bowshot range, as towers move to odd places and such. The effort to make them was amazing but the engine just falls flat trying to deal with them.
"When I die, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like Fidel Castro, not screaming in terror, like his victims."
My shameful truth.
Yes it can be done, though it call for some consideration. The key is in descr_strat.txt where settlement size + the creator faction is coded in.
For example Minas Tirith;
meaning that any settlement that is a huge_city and have faction_creator set as norway will "be" Minas Tirith (it's tied to size and faction).Code:settlement { level huge_city region Anorien_Province year_founded 0 population 4252 plan_set default_set faction_creator norway (...)
Now no faction ingame is norway (Gondor = sicily, Mordor = england etc., you may know these things but anyway) and almost no settlements can be upgraded to huge cities so there's no risk in TATW this occur trough normla gameplay.
But this mean, to change the faction_creator, you have to find a faction that no custom settlement has been tied to - for the size huge_city.
You can for example not change it to "faction_creator sicily" because to level huge city and faction_creator sicily the restored East Osgiliath has been tied. If you changed Minas Tirith's creator to sicily instead it would look like East Osgiliath (in its non-ruin prosperous, restored form).
You will have to experiment to find a creator faction that has not been used for any custom settlement.
Or, if you have experience with the IWTE-tool you can open the settlement files and find out or re-code the ties yourself, though I've only poked it once or twice myself and is not able to instruct how to operate with that.

Haha, that's a tactic too ofc ^^
After looking at it quick I deem you should be able to use faction_creator russia for any settlement with size level that is not level town (which should include all custom settlements) and holding my thumbs haha; it's an easy solution - mind you the custom settlement icons will be lost on the strategy map but guess you survive that
descr_strat.txt is found in data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign btw
Remember to back up before you mod
After edits you must open data/world/maps/base and there delete map.rwm
It will rebuild itself next time you start up the game. Unless you do this the edits ought to not apply (and thus presumably is not save game compatible)
If you do not know what a settlement/region is named in code (as that may differ from what is displayed ingame) check imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt in data/text

(My english is not so good, i'm sorry)
Hi all.
I have a third age 3.2 + 3.3 unofficial patch, i always play vh-vh but i didn't like battle ai. it's so silly. if you have good archers, and if your army have more man, battle ai never attack you. the enemy waiting in range and dying slowly. and battle ai not attack with all man in castle sieges. it sends his trops piece by piece and he has pathfinding problems.
is there any new battle ai? smarter? harder?
how can i like this game if i won all wars? pls help me.
The battle difficulty only boost the moral of the AI , as far as I know. I think there are a couple of mods trying to enhance the AI's abilities, but I don't think there is any major breakthrough, Medieval II's AI it's not very smart at all.
On the "Man of the Hour" topic. Nobody replied so far on the forum Ngugi suggested. I think the most rational option should be to promote to a general, or given the choice to marry an unmarried daughter of the royal family, as said some posts above
MOS is the answer to your problem.
Did you give the Shire autonomy?
Hi guys, i have got an problem: I wanted to play TATW DAC with another keyboard, so i plugged it in (TATW was running), but when i unplugged the keyboard, all keys worked except this one:` Thats the key where you open the commandconsole with, and i want to cheat but i can't because the key isn't working.
