    Little question.

How does the special abilities work? Most say that the fatigue is decreased but, in all the cases that I've seen it's the opposite way... Going from fresh to warmed up.. etc.

And some say, for example, increase combat efectiveness and I haven't seen any radical change while the power is on.

Sorry if it has been asked before.

They work as described, though increased fatigue is an after-effect, often added to abilities that for a duration on the opposite decrease fatigue.

The effectiveness is somewhat increased, they don't become juggernauts but their stats gets a reasonable %-boost

Different abilities obviously give different bonuses and drawbacks, as a rule those that give much + also give larger -
Some, like those that can "stun" or "freeze" the foe (dunno how it's described now) are further only working on enemy units that is not attacked while active

Hey so I'm playing as the dwarves and just got to the last Barracks event which allows me to build the Royal Army Barracks, probable is, the troops I can recruit don't change and the public order bonus doesn't increase, what's up with that?

    hi Pollster

assuming you are playing vanilla TATW, IIRC the last barracks upgrade does not add any new troop to the dwarven rooster and no public order increase; this is not so strange anyway, pretty normal in M2TW regular game

Ok if it dosent help me there is really no reason spending like 7500 gold on it then eh? Weird I would think it would at least let to store an extra unit in the recruitment que?

The highest city barracks level allows recruitment of Khazad Guards, but only in Khazad-Dum. For castles the bonuses and recruitments are identical in the two highest levels, at least as far as I could see in a fast search.

I'm playing rohan and it says my stables get a bonus in grassland regions, does that bonus mean they are cheaper/ faster to build and replenish units quicker or what?

In vanilla TATW the replentish rate is higher in grass land regions; if you play a submod it may be more bonuses

Hey, I'm not sure if they're part of this or MOS but the volunteer mercenary units.

How long do they take to replenish? In my high elven run they're invaluable but it's impossible to get them in any real numbers.
I am the shadow, and the smoke in your eyes I am the ghost, that hides in the night.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
    we shall fight in the hills;
    we shall never surrender.

    " The dark is generous.
Its first gift is concealment: our true faces lie in the dark beneath our skins, our true hearts remain shadowed deeper still. But the greatest concealment lies not in protecting our secret truths, but in hiding from the truths of others.
The dark protects us from what we dare not know.
Its second gift is comforting illusion: the ease of gentle dreams in night’s embrace, the beauty that imagination brings to what would repel in the day’s harsh light. But the greatest of its comforts is the illusion that dark is temporary: that every night brings a new day. Because it’s the day that is temporary.
    Day is the illusion.
Its third gift is the light itself: as days are defined by the nights that divide them, as stars are defined by the infinite black through which they wheel, the dark embraces the light, and brings it forth from the center of its own self.
With each victory of the light, it is the dark that wins.

The dark is generous, and it is patient.
It is the dark that seeds cruelty into justice, that drips contempt into compassion, that poisons love with grains of doubt.
The dark can be patient, because the slightest drop of rain will cause those seeds to sprout.
The rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, for the dark is the soil in which they grow, and it is the clouds above them, and it waits behind the star that gives them light.
    The dark’s patience is infinite.
    Eventually, even stars burn out.

The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins.
It always wins because it is everywhere.
It is in the wood that burns in your hearth, and in the kettle on the fire; it is under your chair and under your table and under the sheets on your bed. Walk in the midday sun, and the dark is with you, attached to the soles of your feet.
The brightest light casts the darkest shadow.

The dark is generous and it is patient and it always wins – but in the heart of its strength lies its weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back.
Love is more than a candle.
    Love can ignite the stars."

It's a MOS matter*, so further discussion about it is directed there.

However I may tell you that you can see replentish rates in the file descr_mercenaries.txt found in data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign
For example the Silvan Volunteers are technically Silvan Sword Mercs (you can search the names up in export_units.txt found in data/text) and look like this:
    Code:
    pool Mirkwood regions Elven-Mirkwood_Province Central-Mirkwood_Province West-Mirkwood_Province New_Mirkwood_Province Deep-Mirkwood_Province Mirkwood_Elven_Settlement_Province
        unit Black Spiders Adult        exp 0 cost 2500 replenish 0.03 - 0.05 max 1 initial 1 religions { catholic }
        unit Silvan Sword Mercs,        exp 0 cost 1300 replenish 0.04 - 0.09 max 2 initial 1 religions { orthodox northmen }
0.04 - 0.09 mean that each turn the units replentish between 4% to 9% each turn and when it reach 1 (or 100%) a unit is avilable. At worst, if only 4% each turn, it take 25 turns and at best, 9% each turn, it take 11 turns between each new Silvan Volunteer unit become avilable.
You can edit this yourself, though I am not sure weither it is save game-compatible.

If you have MOS submod installed ( or any other submod), then ask questions in that submod's thread.

If you have just vanilla TATW installed, then this thread is for questions about it.

Ahhh thank you, the economy is a little weak so I've been primarily using volunteers recently as shields to avoid the loss of any of my archers. Managed to get together 3 units of them now and they make a nice little shieldwall.

    Hi guys

(campaign) Medium is too easy for me, but then I struggle too much on hard - and always lose. So I can't find a happy medium. For me my main bug bear is the extra stacks etc the AI gets - just seems too unfair to me, and I don't remember that (or any other unfair AI bonuses) from my early TATW games

So I want to re-download 1.4 or 2.1 - can anyone tell me the main differences between them? What AI bonuses were introduced that make a big change (e.g. free stacks) in 2.1?? Was the garrison script present in both?

    Thanks for any advice

Prior versions has inferior balance, stack spams was a much greater problem (Gondor often badly steamrolled before turn 100), so if one spawned stack cause you issues you technicly will make the situation worse by using an older TATW.
Simply avoid the problem by not blitz a faction until you know you have sufficent strenght to take on a/the Last Stand-stack, that is spawned when a faction get less than 3 settlements (with the exception of Isengard who get is when they lose Isengard itself).

And if the Last Stand stack is your only issue, you should remember that this is a modding community, and that you can easily get instructions on how to edit certain contents.
Just backup and then open your campaign_script.txt, found in .../data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign
Search for Last Stand and removed the content under the headline down to Osgiliath.
    Ex:
    Code:

I don't like the stacks that seem to spawn, not a big fan of the garrison script (although not too bad) and I believe the AI gets money bonuses etc as well. Did all that exist on 1.4 do you know?

Also, my PC is not getting any younger, and she struggles to run the new custom cities when in battle such as Minas Tirith etc

I had epic sessions on 1.4 or 2.1 - just can't remember which

There's a couple of events that cause the AI to get stacks, all in all it's to keep the balance (which was cleraly different) and give the AI a shot against a human player, as well as make it bloody hard for the player (KK's officially a hard core gamer hehe)

I have a simple question, but odd enough apparently not to be found with the search function...

How do i get missile units to fight hand to hand? Is there a default hot key? Or the name of the option in the controls menu so I can assign a hot key myself?

Hold down alt while telling them to attack.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I am me. You are not me. You are you. If I was you, I wouldn't be me.
If you were me, I'd be sad.But I wouldn't then be me because you'd be me so you wouldn't be me because I wasn't me because you were me but you couldn't be because I'd be a different me. I'd rather be any kind of bird (apart from a goose) than be you because to be you I'd have to not be me which I couldn't do unless someone else was me but then they would be you aswell so there would still be no me. They would be you because I was you so to restore balance you would have to be me and them meaning all three of us would become one continously the same. That would be very bad.
