I'm ashamed to have to ask this, because I really ought to remember, but does anyone know a surefire way to trigger the Man of the Hour event? One of my non-family generals has become a particular favorite, and I'd like to adopt him, so I can keep track of him and his progeny.

I think the best way is probably to win a battle where the odds are heavily against you.

I know a couple Heroic Victories usually triggers it; having already won half a dozen with him, I was just hoping there was a more certain path.

Both your faction leader and heir must have less than 4 children for the "Man of the Hour" event to trigger. If they both have 4, the family tree is "full" and you can't adopt or "Man of the Hour" people into your family tree.

Ah, well that would be the problem then. Bugger. I don't suppose it matters if the 4 are living or dead?

Anyway, thanks for the answer, Duke.

Test it. Send your heirs on a suicide mission. Its fun to do this anyway, cull the family tree a bit. If anyone survives you know they are fit to be their heir to the throne!

It doesn't matter, no. If the slots are full, you cannot adopt any more Generals until one of your family members comes of age.

I want to ask, can Sauron lost his ring then he defeated? I am playing gondor on turn 225, when I toggle_fow, I dont see any army that hit Sauron to death. Seem Smeagol had gut to stolen the ring from Sauron hand.

Why are Gondor's banners coloured blue? They should be black.

Presumably a deliberate choice to have the same colour on banners as on the strat map; and there due to game play Mordor draw the longest straw when it came to the bordering black factions (it's not a good choice to have two black factions next to each other).

If I want to install another mod for M2, like Hyrule Total War,(used to have SS but lost it with my old computer and never got back ot it), would my data on Vanilla and/or MOS be "cleaned out", will I have to start a new campaign with rebooted settings, etc?

Assuming the mod you want to install is "mod foldered" you can add it with no impact to your TATW/MOS game. I know for sure that SS is mod foldered, but not sure on Hyrule. You can have as many mods installed as you want as long as they are mod foldered.

I'm not sure I've ever seen an un-foldered mod haha I was only concerned if the different folders affected eachother. But in the setup, Hyrule does have its separate folder, so I guess I'm safe, thanks for the quick response!

Spiders... Big, hairy, ugly, scary and fast as hell, eat my armies like cereal, just the other day they had Legolas for breakfast. What's the best way to deal with them?

    1. Line up a sufficient number of archers.
    2. Let aforementioned archers fire.
    3. ?
    4. Profit.

    Default Income problems

    Hello,

it seems that every turn my income is different. From +1500 to -2000 then +300 then -250

I can't for the life of me fathom why that would be?
I have nothing in my queues, I almost exclusively built markets, farms and roads wherever I could and I can still never stay positive.

I have a half a stack army and that's it.

    Any helping ideas out there?

    tnx

Your overall income on the economy screen takes into account any construction or recruitment you have done that turn. It is a measure of how much you will start out with next turn as opposed to this turn. The real measure of your income can still be easily seen though. Bring up your income panel, and subtract your current money from where it says how much you will start out with next turn. That is your true income.

Also take into account farming and seasons. Take a look at your income from cities and you will note that it changes depending on season and just randomly due to whether there is a good or bad harvest in the region.

    Thank you sharkbait and Loki!
I did suspect there's a good and bad harverst etc.
However then I do not know how to break positive with elves. I tried both factions and I've always been just trampled over by full Orc stacks while I can't field even 1 full stack.
And all the towns/cities are like 500 souls at game start.

    Am I missing something?

    General tips from start of a HE campaign;
    - Move the capital to the coastal provinces to reduce corruption early (normally make it turn 2 or 3 after I built what I may; cost 5000 but saves you money in a few turns)
    - Build economy buildings; mines, roads, farms, ports. Grain exchange is good to avoid bad traits for guvernors but higher markets take long time to pay off
    - Keep low taxes if possible: population growth mean your settlements can be upgraded sooner (better economy buildings) and more population grant more tax income
    - For as long as possible, a.k.a till you have a supporting economy, don't recrute units unless needed: as they are kick ass anyhow so make use of what you got, you shouldn't need to many to take out much greater forces and their upkeep is heavy on the treasury
