Any word on how the Map is coming? I know this was one of the most time consuming, horrible parts of making a mod from scratch. Units can come later if needed, but the Map is needed to be there early.

I believe the map is (almost) finished. There was a post on twitter about it a while back.

Will there be variations in the first release? In all previews so far I have seen variations, but if it means a sooner release I would be willing to live without them for a few months.

Do you mean in the unit models? If so then yes.

It would actually be more work to add them in at a later date, so it doesn't really make sense to work that way.
