    Default Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul

Anyone here play this excellent mod for Oblivion? Makes things very difficult, adds a few quests, a lot of new weapons, armor, enemies, etc. Sylvan Archermers are more or less the thing that kills me the fastest...ever.

Any tips for the new quests? They all seem to be geared towards high level characters (the preexisting quests are all changed as well)...

Ah yes, and if it was a complaint, leveled enemies are more or less gone. Now, it's just plain unsafe to go into certain caves/ruins/castles/wilderness areas. Caution is paramount.

I'm currently playing a redguard "Ardashes", wearing a worn out legion helmet, worn dwemer cuirass, greaves, gloves, and boots, using an elmwood bow and braided katana I picked up off of an archermer bosmer rangers killed for me...I think I'm level 10 or 11.

I thought about trying it, but at the end of the day it sounded way too "hardcore' for me, I wanting something a bit more light-hearted . I really like midas magic of aurum in that respect.

The combat feels a little mount and blade -esque...in the sense you really can't go beyond your limits and fight too many people at once. Two or three at the most (4 skeletons really gave me a run for my money, and they're the weakest undead...).

Otherwise, if you stick to the roads and take it slow with the exploration, you'll level just fine and be able to take on bigger and better things. It really does accomplish making the game so much less samey in doing so...

You should get Fcom, it includes all the biggest overhaul mods in one

FCOM is a supreme whore to install, but if you get it running the thing is a dream. No other overhaul mod can compare, because FCOM is likely that overhaul mod plus so much more.

So I take it they still haven't streamlined the install yet. I gave up several months ago in the hopes they'd make it a little more user friendly. I'm not computer illiterate but I'm no programmer either.

I've always found FCOM to be a little overboard, compared to the scale of the game. OOO is just right, imo.

First time trying big mods, just OOO is enough. Maybe couple it with MMM which has a special OOO-compatible installation.

Installing FCOM however has become quite a big easier with the awesome BOSS and with OBMM and Wrye Bash becoming more user-friendly, after the initial hastle of installing the big ones (OOO, MMM, Franseco's, Warcry and Bob's) all the optional add-ons are much easier to install now. The difficulty was always in getting a working, stable loadorder, and BOSS provides that.

Personally I'm waiting for 1.0 to finally come out and then I'll reinstall the whole shebang. (I hope they're still working at 1.0, I've been out of the loop for quite a while)

edit: they'll never streamline the installation, the power of FCOM is in its modularity. (though an enthusiast might make a 1.0 full bare bones install, but that's gonna be several GB to download)
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

They're at 0.9.9 now, but hell, you never know when they'll make the step to 1.0.0, we might have to wait pretty long. When I downloaded it some odd months ago, it was on 0.9.7. I did see BOSS when browsing the Beth forums though, looked very interesting.

I was recommended the OOO mod by a friend some time ago. I still have it installed and I could not imagine playing Oblivion without it now.

It can be difficult playing some of the OOO quests and storylines in the beginning stages of your character. I suggest poisons for your weapons to help defeat deadly foes. Even if you have to retreat, your potions will effectively attack for you while your recoup. I still use my triple arrows of death to kill many of the enemies I encounter if I'm attacked by several at once.

I saw the mod somewhere but it gave a poor description. I just stick with seperate armor mods for now untill I find something on this scale thats made for HG Eyecandy bodies. I just cant stand the overly manly stock bodyshape for women. Often I have mistaken women for men in an unmodded Oblivion, not as much as with Morrowind, but still a lot.

If any mod is too difficult to install I just wont bother since it might break the game.

Ow, FCOM will break your game. Every hour it will crash.

But there's just so much to do in FCOM.

    Thanks

I was about to make a post asking if it really was that bad, because as much as i want to try it I really don't want instability. It doesn't matter about how hard it is to install as long as there are good instructions

Then you're one of the lucky ones who've managed to achieve a completely stable installation.

I never have (probably because of the of mods I used to have, and at the time there was no BOSS)

The Youtube video up there says version one but I can only find a beta version of the mod. Am I looking in the wrong places or am I just misunderstanding something?

I really want to play with this mod as I always hoped to get some of the other major mods installed alongside OOO, but it is a right pain...

I shall wait untill they release a version that has relatively easy intallation I think

FCOM 1.0 isn't out yet, only 0.9.9 beta.

ANd there probably will never be an easy to install version
