    Default "failed to find steam"

I got Rome: Gold edition (with BI in it) from steam when I bought E:TW.

I tried installing this mod but when I run the shortcut it says "cannot find steam"

how do I make it work?

    thanks.

Edit - is ExRM installed? Because this is the forum for that mod

Er, it seems like it is the forum for that mod to me.

never mind btw, I got it to load, but immediately I saw how badly done it is (map cluttered with cities and way too many units with way too little difference between them instead of being a good streamlined mod that just makes the game better.. the sad sad 'more is better' approach all over the place), and it crashed during the AIs first turn anyway,

    so never mind.

It's a realism mod, it's not supposed to be fun...

Here's what I did. RTR is the dogs' danglies btw.

    1) Go to folder C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold (assuming normal folder structure etc)
    2) Make a backup copy of RomeTW.exe file
    3) Delete the RomeTW.exe file
    4) Make a copy of RomeTW-BI.exe
    5) Rename Copy of RomeTW-BI.exe to RomeTW.exe
    7) Go to your desktop (assuming normal windows installation blah blah)
    7) Find the ExRM v3.4 shortcut
    8) Right click and select properties
    9) In the Target box paste the following exactly as written "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 4760 -nm -show_err -mod:ExRM
    10) Make sure Steam is running
    11) Run the shortcut you edited in step 9, ExRm should run

Note, you can crank all video settings but I have noticed an occasional CTD when enabling the "Detailed Unit Shadows" option in the Advanced Video Options.

Thanks for listing that detailed setup Naffatun. Maybe I'll solve my problem with it (hopefully).

That's an awesome explanation. I'm adding a link to it in the FAQ.
