    Introduction ---------- Back to Top

This thread explains how to report a bug. Before you read this, you should read the Guide to Play Testing which explains how you, as a player of a pre-release version of the game, are expected to handle the playing of the game and finding of bugs. All bug reports should follow this guide, or they are likely to be overlooked.

    What is a bug?

A bug is an error, flaw, mistake, failure, or fault in a computer program that prevents it from behaving as intended (e.g., producing an incorrect or unexpected result). In the context of AUH, a bug is anything from a minor graphical glitch to a CTD(Crash to Desktop). Bugs occur within the running of the game and hamper the play experience.

Why do we want to report them?

Bugs need to be reported so they can be squashed. No one wants a buggy game, so effective bug reporting enables us to solve issues that come up and make the game run more smoothly and as it was intended to be.

    Who can report a bug?

Everyone who has access to the current release of All Under Heaven can report a bug. Bug reports need to follow the guidelines and protocols specified in this guide for the utmost efficiency of handling them. Bugs that have less information or are inherently more vague have a much less likelihood of being solved in the foreseeable future.

    How quick are bugs fixed?

It depends on the nature of the bug, the amount of people with the ability to fix it, and the severity of the bug. Trivial bugs are likely to be postponed if more important work needs to be done. Similarly, bugs that are impossible to replicate with any efficiency or the conditions of which can't be ascertained are unlikely to be solved quickly. There is not time frame on bug fixes, but if they are easy to fix and pose a significant problem they generally go on the top of someone's to-do list.

Okay. Can I start reporting bugs now?

No. Read the rest of this guide first and the Play Testing Guide, and then you can start reporting bugs, young Padawan.

Getting Started ---------- Back to Top

At AUH we use bug tracking software to keep track of our bugs, as opposed to a thread or word of mouth. There are various reasons for this, the foremost of which being efficiency. You should have received a message in your inbox concerning your Mantis account(and a subsequent e-mail to the account used to sign up your TWCenter Account). If you did not receive one or either, you should contact me concerning it so that it can be resolved. Once you have verified that you received an e-mail concerning Mantis, follow the link and set your password, insuring you can log in properly. After you're logged in, you're ready to learn how to use Mantis to report bugs.
