I voted Germnay because of the barbaric factions, many of the Duchies and kingdoms, the HRE, and the wars they have started. Italy, France, or England would be my next choice.

Only one choice? Bah -- they are all just about equal in interest. If only one can be picked, I would and did pick China just because the time frame is longer so there must be more of interest. Within Europe, I would choose Italy or England over the other choices slightly (due to democratic developments more so than art, re;igion, and war).

What do you mean with the time frame is longer?
Egypt or Turkey for example have older civilizations and towns then china.

My first idea was either France or Turkey.

Egypt is longer (good point), but more of a Nile delta history. China has many differing civilizations competing over a broader area.

Turkey has never been of interest to me, sorry.

We; Turks, were here before that chinese and the egyptians. We lived in Central Asia; we lived in holy lands, we lived in Anatolia, we lived in europe, we ruled over Africa. So i couldnt understand how did you find more interesting things for yourself...

i am pretty sure the Egyptian, Babylonian, the greek, the roman, indian and the chinese civilizations existed before the loose coalition of turkic nomads had anything that was close to being a civilization.

Simple, america is full of history. Starting with the natives, the slavery of the natives by the europeans, american revolution, slave uprisings, lincoln wars etc.

I'm gonna be a traditionalist and say England, simply because it's all documented, and anything more interesting for me isn't there (ie. Poland).

Are you really going to start a discussion on someone's opinion?

Anyway I'll go for the Romans.

Personally England because of how it rose from being such a small power (and because I am English)
However I enjoy learning more about other countries but one thing I have noticed is how one countries version of history seems to differ from their neighbours and how it seems so important to some people

I guess that is the problem with this poll. Many people would vote for their homeland.
If i would be allowed to vote, i would vote for Greece, Egypt or Danmark.
Greece was the first democracy, then there was Alexander, it was the most important culture, and later they were an important part of the Roman Empires. And today it is...crap. However this appeared to happen...
Egypt is one of the oldest countries, it had very characteristic leaders and all.
And i like especially Denmark, because of the Vikings and how they turned to "peaceful" Christians.

I voted Italy, as I have not deeply researched many other cultures outside of Europe.

Italy is a nation as well as a geographical location. The Italian peninsular. Turkey is just a tribe. I would find the history of Mesopotamia to be very interesting, and have been interested in it at some point, but that ain't turkey.

Italy has had such diversity. Tribes; a Kingdom; an empire; multiple fractured, but very influential city-states; the epicenter of Catholicism; the center of a Roman ideal that lasted into the 1800s with the HRE (as ultimately, it was a 'roman' empire, even if it was not holy and not roman in nature, it was based on the idea of a continuing roman empire)..

Probably France; Part of the Roman Empire, Charlemagne, Feudal France, Napoléon, the World Wars,...

Well I would choose belgium, not for their independence wars from the netherlands alone
But for the wars of the region in the times of the Roman Empire.

Complete savages (almost) kept of the profesional armies of rome of their land for a long time.

Later there were many feudal wars and finnaly independence from france

And well then more later independence from netherlands

What i mean is.. they always took on stronger enemies, but did okay

Are we judging which REGION was most interesting or which group of people were most interesting? For example if i said germany would i be takling about the germans or any group of people that lived in germany and called germany its home?

If its the region then I would have to say france because of gaul. They sacked Rome twice I believe. They also had vast colonies in asia, africa, and north america and they had great generals/emperors as charlemagne and napolean. However their success ends at napolean...

Hard to choose... I like different nations in different periods.
Greece is my favourite in the antiquity, Rome after it became an empire takes that place.... England's dark ages and 17th century and onward, Germany in the world wars..

I can't pick. Europe has such an amazing history that it's just impossible to pick one out of all these!

Do you have any proof of that claim? It vexes me that every Scandinavian goes on about that when the fact of the matter is that a minority were vikings. Most still stayed home and farmed their lands peacefully.
Very few families can actually prove that they have viking heritage, I only know of the noble family Havfskiöld.
