Icon8 NEW CTDs, new to me anyway.

Just started a new long campaign as Britain, it is 1711ish and I have not yet been to war with anyone.

Built an army in Bahamas and was planning on geting into some trouble but now any bi-lateral diplomatic overture or activity of any kind whether declaring war, having war declared on me, or even a bilateral trade agreement results in CTD. Unilateral givaways and state gifts works fine but any 2 part activity results in CTD no matter what faction.

    Declared war on cherokee CTD
Huron declair war on me CTD
Sign 10 turn military access with France CTD
Sign trade agreament with France CTD

Any Ideas? This is the first of 20 campaigns I've played where this is happening.

I would just try to load again and try something different or see at least if it works a 2nd time. I have only experienced 2 ctds in ETW and both of them have been fixed by simply loading the latest save.

Trust me, I've tried every trick in the book that I know. Have reloaded a dozen times, have reloaded without sound, have reloaded on line and off line, and from 3 different save points within the campaign.

Ive tried baiting the AI to delair war on me. Any diplomatic Bi-lateral activity CTDs.

Tried once after rolling back sound driver as I first thought this could be the problem.

Nothing I do will get me past this crash. I hate to start a new campaign as I just got this econ really cranking out some dough.

Only thing different about this campaign is its the first one I've "started" since the last sound update. All other campaigns I'm working arnt doing this and they were all started befor the sound update from CA.

Remove any mods and use steam to verify game cache.

If that doesn't work, keep your saves in another folder and reinstall the whole game, copy your saves over and see what happens.

    Hope it helps!

    Thanks.

I'll try that as much as I dont want to. That will take as long as starting a fresh campaign. LOL

I just removed all my mods two days ago and verified all game cache with no negitive reports after exsperiencing another non fatal glitch of no SFX from popup windows, buttons, and units on campaign map or battle map, no button sound, just music and tweeting birds after loading from a saved game.

Checked my dxdiag and had no reported problems from hardware; event viewer is below.

Have been running vanilla ever sence. I dread the amount of time it takes to reinstall this game.

10 of the CTDs returned the bottom result and 4 returned the top result.

LMAO I just counted. I've had 40 CTDs in the event viewer for Empire.exe since 3/7/09.

But todays are the first that have actually killed a campaign that I cant work around in some way.

And the sound one on the campaign map is one I have, it will go away after progressing a turn. My sfx came back once I did. EDIT: I think this is a sound issue related to the last patch, I also have weird issues on the battle map now with sound. Too much musket fire and stuff like that.

As far reinstalling, I just hope it's the game and not your saves that are the trouble. Good luck!

Let me know how it turns out.

I thought it would help and it looked for a while that it did.

No mods installed, I verified game cache, it found something because it downloaded about 10M of data.

Got rid of all my old saved games and restarted my Brit campaign from scratch trying as best I could to follow my steps from first try.

Got past the erroe CTD that was happening above but now a new CTD in turn change during cherokee turn whom I'm at war with.

These are the two event records from the new CTD then tried reload and got the second at the same spot during Cherokee turn.

    PS

Up untill I reloaded after crash, I played straight thru without reloading a save game so it cant be a corrupted save game file. It has to be the game.

This type of unworkable/workaround crash has never happened to me until Today. I played all day yesterday and had no crashes. Ive never until today had a crash I could not recover from and continue my campaigns and I have several that are "finished" and I was up into the 1800s with over 100 turns.

The first time I did the verify, I went back and tried several older save games that I had had no problems at all with and the 3 I tried all had CTD that I could not recover from.

So its looking to me that this game is totally busted and unplayable.

I'm going to give it a few more days and try a complete reinstall but I'm about over it saddly.

I think i'm having a problem similar to yours. I've tried two different British campaigns since the latest patch and it seems to ctd randomly when i end turns and it gets to the Indian nations turn. (Cherokee/Heron w/e) Ive tried reloading from different points, reinstalling, and not even interacting with them, but my game keeps crashing.

My latest campaign crashed on my 22nd turn, and my older one crashed on my 50th. I'm fairly certain it has something to do with the latest patch (for me), since i played through 3 full campaigns pre patch w/o any ctd.

Somethings up because Ive been reading thru some other peoples CTD issues and simillar to me fine up until yesterday then today all of a sudden unrecoverable CTDs.

I have played sence the latest patch but until today I hadnt noticed anything. Today I cant go 20 turns without a CTD that I cant work around and recover from.
