In order to complete the tasks my Lord has given me I need to purchase a new printer. However, I know nothing about printers. If someone could please recommend a reliable printer sold at a reasonable price it would be most appreciated.
Thank you

Well, first off...
Do you want it to just print pages?
Do you want it to be able to print photos?
Do you want it to be able to scan documents and pictures to your computer?
Do you want it to be able to print doublesided?
Do you want it to have an LCD menu screen?
Do you want it to be able to fax?
Do you want it to make you coffee in the morning?

All I require is the basic printing and scanning capabilities. But it would be nice if the printer could be used as a transportation device I could travel back to my home planet every now and then (not really of course).

HP C4480 is a pretty good basic printer/scanner, just make sure you purchase 350/351 XL cartridges instead of the standard ones as the standards are a total rip off.
Just don't get a Lexmark. Their drivers are terrible and bloated beyond belief.
I recently bought a Cannon Pixma, and I am happy with it. I did a bit of research and the MP480 got great reviews. Ink is also cheap, which is definitely something to look for. HP is also good. No need to spend over $80.

If you require just a printer, you can get away with spending $20. But the sanner and printer come in handy.

Good advice. I would never buy a Lexmark printer, nasty cheap printers that costs an arm and leg in running costs (initially cheap to buy), poor build quality, bad drivers I would go as far to say Lexmark printers don't have any redeeming qualities.
I see you have settled on the Brother MFC 790CW that's a good choice of printer. We use them at them at work and they don't give us any hassle.
Thank you for the input but I've decided on a Brother MFC-790cw printer. The two printers listen above are nice, but they're primarily for photos. I will now be able to carry out my Lord's requests quickly and efficiently.

I recently bought a Canon MP600 which is a fantastic piece of kit. It may be a little advanced for what you're looking for, though I got mine for £70 off ebay. I'd personally go for Canon though - as already mentioned the MP480 would be a solid choice.

I couldn't find a thread more recent but posting after Calvin is a nice feeling anyways so here we go: I need a new printer.
My free HP all-in-one finally gave up the fight and I'm in need of some advice mainly, what is the difference between a laserjet and an inkjet printer? About five years ago I recall that inkjet printers were dirt cheap but the cartridge refills were outrageous and the laserjet printers cost more off the shelf but the refills were cheaper and lasted longer if you did the math page by page. Does that still hold true five years later in the present or do I need to look at something else entirely?
Also, is it still worth it to buy an all-in-one or should I just go for a printer/copier sans the scanner, fax, photo etc.? Since I'm no longer a student my printing needs are low but I still like to have the convenience of making copies at home instead of going to the library and being charged tax for a ten cent copy.
