Default Petty Britain2 Jaqui smith knows what you're reading

As of today, information from all emails and website visits, data from phone calls and text messages in the UK will be stored and made available to the government, its agencies and local authorities. All derived from an EU directive that has not been debated in Parliament.

It's a "directive", i.e. we don't have to follow it.
Britain's the only one who has, apparently.

That's what you get for voting in a right wing majority in the EU Parliament, Commission etc.

Jacqui Smith would be better served trying to stop her husband knocking one out over tax-funded porn, than spying on the innocent masses. Stupid stupid woman.

    Add to that list:

    Possibility of ID Cards
More CCTV then anywhere else in the world
Everyone may end up on DNA files
The arresting of that politician who said something bad about Brown
The attempt to pass the 48 day imprisonment without trial for 'terrorists'
    No protests outside Parliament

Now I might still have missed 1 or 2

    Conservative's

Firm promise to abolish ID Cards
Firm promise to remove anyone not convicted of an offence from the DNA database
    Against 48 day pre-charge detention

As for this non-sense, its an EU Directive, so it has to be implemented, but I get the impression lots of member nations are unhappy about it.

I'd point out though that most of this information was stored voluntarily or on specific government request anyway. The way we've implemented the directive just makes it all statutory. The downside is it makes it available to local authorities and agencies as well as Government and Police - Why?
