Default A question about reverting to vanilla

I backed up the relevent files before i installed a mod (IS). But in the event of a possible major patch, how could i revert back to the vanilla game?

Should i set steam to not autoupdate, and then on the event of a major patch reinstate my back ups and then allow it to update?

Can i just leave it update automatically and then in the event of conflict with the mod, reinstate my backed up files from the previous patch and then let it update again?

I hear it's quite difficult to reinstall the game properly, so i'm hoping theres away to do this relativly painlessly.

You can delete patch.pack main.pack and patch_en.pack and steam will update your files and reload them for you.

Forgot to say to go into your steam account and right click on Empite TW and select properties then goto Local Files and then to Verify integrity of game cache. This will update all files you delete including startpos. I do alot of modding and this is the only way I can get it back to vanilla.

I tried doing this and the game still wont revert to vanilla. It still has a spain and france retexture mod as well as a new sound effects mod for the weapons. Everytime I remove the necessary files from the data folder (as I did to remove my other mods) the game crashes on start up. This is still the case even after I deleted the 3 files that you suggested and verified the games integrity cache.

which files are you deleting? Should be
    1. Startpos
    2. Main.pack
    3. Patch.pack
    4. patch_en
    5. make sure you remove any user scripts from your username/appdata/roaming/The Creative Assembly/Empire/scripts

Anytime, next time you can make a ETW Backup folder and after you patch save those three files to that folde and whenever you need too grab and replace. Viola

IS should come within a mod pack if I'm not mistaken so it doesn't touch your vanilla installation at all.

No thing is everything. Every thing is nothing.

If you do have problems you can just remove the mod declarations in your user script, but that should only be a problem if some of the CA database tables change format, which (we hope) should be pretty rare.

Im having a similar problem, I want to get rid of the mods that I have, but I cant seem to do that. I tried removing the files that I put into the data folder to begin with, but that causes ETW to crash 3 seconds after trying to start up (I don't have any of the mods checked in the mod manager). I then uninstalled the game entirely and re-installed it. This didn't work either as all the mods were still present in the game. How can I delete these and revert back to Vanilla?

Oh, no, I was only deleting the main.pack, patch.pack, and the patch-en. About the last one, the user scripts one, what exactly do you mean? Lets say I'm a little new to the file searching thing hehe. Thanks for the help too by the way.

Edit: I tried looking for the Startpos file, but I couldn't seem to find anything by that name. Also, I'm still a little lost as to what to do about the user scripts one.

The script one is only if you have installed a mod or have used the empire mod manager it will be in your dir
Right click Start----> explore----> username\Appdata\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\Scripts inside that will be one or two files depending on if you have added a mod. 1. preferences.empire_script and or 2. another script like user_script something lol cant remember but you should only have one file in the script folder. If you have any probs finding it just PM me.

Yes, if you've removed mods from your data folder you must delete their entries in user.empire_script.txt. If you don't the game will crash upon startup.

The other file, preferences.empire_script.txt has data from the options menus in game. You don't need to touch that.
