legalization would do nothing but benefit this country, I would hope he has the insight for this( not only would it fix our mexico problem but it would add tremendous amounts of money into the economy)

agreed, we could put a nice tax on it, like cigerettes, and why onjly limit it to Marijuana, make it like Heroin and Cocaine and everthing. Also why not legalize prostitution?

    Eh...

this thread isn't really about legalization, more about the way in which the government argues against it. Its pathetic really.

Reporter: What are the reasons behind the president's stance on marijuana?

Gibbs: "The president does not feel that legalization is the direction the country should be taking."

That's because Gibbs is just the government's spokesperson/media-deflector.
He isn't allowed to make arguments of his own, he can only echo a set of pre-formulated arguments handed to him by the government, and I guess nobody bothered to tell him how to answer this question (yet).

    Not true, but common misconception:

Small scale consumer sales and possession are decriminalized here, but not legalized.

Growing Marijuana and selling it to the "coffeshops" is still highly illegal, and if caught you will get prosecuted.
And since it's illegal, it's not being taxed.

If you legalize it the drug lords will find something other to sell (Another Illegal Drug)..

    It won't help the economy.

Would you rather buy the expesnive bag of marijuana from the government? Completely legal

Or an illegal substance that could land you 5-10 years in prison?

the point is that we would be getting the money instead of drug lords in both the public and private sectors.

Hey most liberals and quite a few conservatives also see the idiocy of continuing to outlaw pot.

Any lift on a series of laws is a step towards libertarianism on the spectrum. Doesn't make you one, of course, but it shows that not all of its views can be considered unreasonable.

i agree with outlawing it...i used to agree with legalization of it until i had to do a report on it in school. When they tried to legalize it in alaska productivity went way down and people would easily evade paying taxes on pot (by buying a little then growing there own) and quiting their job just to do the drug. also crime rate went drastically up due to drug trafficking and instead of getting rid of drug organizations it just made them flourish. quite ironic really. besides it really is not costing very much money to continue our regulation on drug trafficking. Also statistics show that we are doing better and better every year on defeating marijuana trafficking. Although in some areas it has increased due to the drug cartel
    You look great today.

Of course legalizing pot would increase the economy marginally. I don't know why pot heads are for legalization though. All it would do is increase the cost and lower the quality. What pot heads should be striving for is decriminalization of Pot, like in Canada, not legalization. I mean, haven't pot heads realized that politically, the people who support the legalization of pot are actually the people who want it to be gone? Their intent is to tax the hell out of it until people dont bother anymore.

    That would be stupid.

So you tax pot to the point of unafforadbility. What do people do?

Call up their old dealer and look, the black market is back, along with drug cartels and such.

    Simple supply and demand.

Eh...this thread is fail, not talking about what I wanted to talk about. Shows the quality of mudpit.
