    Default Dragoons and provincial cavalry

In their description it says that they are good for keeping the peace and dissolving riots, but are these units actually more efficient than other units to keep happiness as garrisons? I have been using them in that role and I think I have seen that effect, but I'm not sure.

Yes, dragoons have an effect of quelling unrest.

Yes they are; if you go to their info card, at the top is another tab for special abilities where it does say bonus in suppressing revolt risk. It does seem to work in practice as well, as i have seen 3 dragoons in a town keep the happiness green while 3 colonial militia puts it in the yellow.

    Hope this helps.

Dragoons add to public order, im just not sure what stat it improves, I'd have to double check that but im far too lazy to do that right now

The is an icon that appears in a pinkish red when there is a garrison in the town called "garrison repression" or something. Put a dragoon and then compare it with another unit and see how it works.

According to its description provincial cavalry should also have that bonus, maybe an oversight.

The bonus repression is an ability, it's shown on the unit's abilities tab if they have it.

What it does is, ordinary infantry add 1 point to happines, dragoons and the like add two.
So in effect they are cheaper for public order than militia.
