Default Should CA make another TW game, and what would it be?

Hi everyone. I've noticed, like many others, CA is gradually going downhill in terms of quality. More and more games they pump out often lack in polish, are full of bugs, and have stupid AI. So here's the million-dollar question:
Should they make another one? And if so, what would it be? I think a Shogun II would be alright, but this time, maybe they could try to get a better publisher or, better yet, publish their own, but i know it's not likely.

    Thanks, please discuss

I don't want them to even think about another one until ETW if fixed - completely.

i dont think they stop releasing patches for at least a year after release, for instance m2tw patch 1.3 was released like 15 months after the game was released.

E:TW should definitely be their main concern until it's of release standard, but of course the series should continue. It has not become progressively worse, it has suffered from different design decisions and the idea that the great new features are owed to the consumer as a sign of the times. There are definitely aspects of each new game that are not as good as they were in previous games and yes, this poses a great problem, but I don't want to see CA die of E:TW like AoE3 killed Ensemble. AAA strategy series are too rare to throw away because one game doesn't meet the standard.

I don't really want the series to go much further forward in history. I really don't want to see a Word War One: Total War. I wouldn't mind them going back to previous titles and updating and improving, I for one love the Shogun: total war time period.

I love the Total War Series, and of course I would want CA to continue with it.
However I think the time has come for them to do some really serious work on their game engine/software design, They need to concentrate on making their product fully multi-core compatable, Times have moved on and most comps now use at least dual-core cpu's.
They have graphic's well worked out now, and its time for the basics to be overhauled.
I hope they do a RTW2 with all the new engine could be capable of.

I think CA needs a major restructuring internally before they should attempt any more Total War games...

With that being said, I think the greatest battle/empire time in history is Rome, and an updated version of RTW would be awesome (if the game actually worked of course)

ETW is a great idea though and I'm glad it was attempted. It has some great moments, but I think we're finding out that the further you go forward in history the bigger the game concept gets and the less realistic everything becomes.

    RTW2 imo.

Yeah, I'm for RTW2. Very into the ancient era myself. I think the series works best in pre-gunpowder eras, as battles with lines of guys just standing there blasting away are not so exciting. The rock-paper-scissors system with melee/projectile/cavalry really works, and melee/projectile have pretty much merged in ETW.

I would NOT agree that the quality has gone downhill. Rome was a HUGE leap forward from Medieval I, and Medieval II put lots of bells and whistles on Rome. Empire is certainly a step back, but only because it is so swamped with glitches and bugs that it's not fun. If they ever fix it up, it will be a step forward. I like what they've done with techs and towns, for example; I just wish the glitches didn't ruin my experience.

Releasing an unfinished game with almost all the attention focused on eye-candy rather than game play unfortunately seems to be the nature of the beast. It sounds like PC gamers are dumb enough to support this practice with their $$$, and that, ultimately, is what's driving things. I blame SEGA rather than CA for the current debacle; I hope CA stays around and comes back from this, but I won't buy the next game for many months after release. I think doing anything else would be irresponsible.

No matter how much i hate ETW, i still think CA is a great developer. TW is one of my favorite series of games, and i absolutely want it to continue.

But it seems like there is something not right at CA, ETW even though major reviewers gave it good scores is a average game at best in terms of game play, and stormrise, was soo horrible even that it got a 2.0 score, you simply cant go lower than that.

I think what CA needs to do is concentrate on one single game, and take their time to finish it. Because all their games have huge potential but it seems like they just didnt finish it. Honestly SEGA needs to bugger off.

A new RTW-ish ancient era TW, but with a longer timescale. Would be nice to play the Greeks at the height of their power against the Persians, then Alexanders campaign, then the Rome era all the way from the founding of the city to the fall.

I would be satisfied for an entire redux of Rome Total War. Better Graphics, Better combat animations, etc. As other people have said, also a longer time period.

I'd love to see another Shogun-esque total war. It'd be awfully restricting, however, to keep it to Japan.

There are, however, a few time periods when an Asia: Total War would be viable.

    Ok:

Yes CA should continue to make Total War games...forever. They should also drop anything else, and focus ONLY on the Total War series. That way quality and epicness can be assured.

As for their next one, I am seriously hoping they either redo Shogun or venture into the 20th century.

Give me a break!!! They should make one GOOD game before they go off and start on a new one. Fix and improve Empire Total War.. then we can discuss where they can go from there.

Rome Total War 2 with the time period extending from the Greeks to the fall of Rome would be my first choice. The map needs to extend all the way to India and up to the top of Scandinavia, and maybe Iceland or Greenland?

My second choice would be an Asian Total War, featuring Japan, China, India, Korea and other nations. Ships would be squarer, ninjas would be flying and rockets would still be there.

My third choice would be either an Africa, Australia, or America Total War that focuses more on the natives than the Europeans. Fighting with boomerangs on the open Outback would be fun, and attacking the Incas in Maccu Piccu against your indomitable Iroquois empire would be even better.

My fourth choice would be keeping it in the 1850's to early 2000's featuring the rise of the rifle, machine gun, armored warship, tanks, and fighter planes, eventually ending in a nuclear war.

Let me add that if they did include China in a new total war, they would HAVE to find a way to emphasize the importance of the rivers.

And I thought that Empire was a much more quality game than M2TW, and not a stupid arcade-game like vanilla RTW.

Finish ETW first before adding anything else to the plate.

I was a little skeptical about the setting of ETW, with all the muskets and artilleries etc. but I've really grown fond of it, it makes great for strategic playing (AI issues aside). So the next game should really make use that strength of the engine, combining fire power with melee battles. Am i building up for another Shogun rant? I guess I am, so I'll cut myself short... for this time
