How to play RM2 with Steam
*cough cough*
So, in case there's somebody besides me out there who got Rome: Total War Gold via the special offer associated with the release of Empire: Total War, and therefore only has the Steam version, here's how to install RM2 so that it actually works
Step 1: Get some tea, or perhaps hot cocoa. Don't get coffee, though. It's bad for your stomach.
Step 2: Download and install RM2:
http://files.filefront.com/RM2+betam.../fileinfo.html
Since you're using Steam (if you're not, why are you reading this?), the installation path should be:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold\
or similar.
Step 3: Download the Rome Medieval Sprites:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/8281...prites_1_2_rar
Extract with WinZip or WinRAR or a similar program to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold\RomeMedievalMOD\Data\
Step 4: At this point you should be applying a hotfix. I didn't do this as TWCenter was down at the time (...). My game is running fine, though, with no game breaking bugs.
Step 5: Right, this is probably the trickiest part: the shortcut.
Go into the C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold\RomeMedievalMOD\ folder and find the Rome Medieval 2.exe file. There's an icon with that name too, but that's not the file we're looking for. Copy the file somewhere safe, 'cause we're gonna be toying with this.
Now, right-click the file and select Properties. Select the "destination" field and replace the text that is there with this:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 4760 mod:RomeMedievalMOD -nm -show_err
Select the "start in" field and replace the text that is there with this:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\"
Now you should be able to use the Rome Medieval 2.exe to start RM2 and start conquering the world! Yay!
If you want to create a shortcut for RM2, just right-click the Rome Medieval 2 file and choose "create shortcut" or similar. I'm on a Danish system, I don't know what it's called in other languages, but you should be able to figure it out <.<
Disclaimer: If something goes wrong for you while following these instructions, and your game messes up, I cannot be held responsible. Make sure to copy all files that are being editted.
EDIT: Btw, in the faction-choosing screen, Denmark is listed as "The Danishs" which is horribly wrong
Should be "The Danish" or "The Danes".
