Default I didn't want to go that far...

OK, finally I managed to bring about a revolt, but I thought you got a choice of government? But they never asked me, the game just went and installed a republic (I was hoping for a constitutional monarchy).

BTW what happens when you already have a republic and a revolution occurs? Has anyone gotten to that point? Maybe a return of absolute monarchy...

Constitutional monarch = Republic and the middle classes revolt.

You can only get a Constitutional Monarchy if the middle class in a republic (the ruling/upper class, as represented in game) revolts.

As an absolute monarchy, a lower class revolt will install a republic and an upper class revolt will oust/replace your king, but remain absolute. Republic is a necessary step for Constitutional, in game.

Has anyone had any luck making their middle class revolt though?

I tried with Prussia, didnt work at all.

I burned down happiness buildings. I removed garrisons. I raised taxes to the max. At the most I got were yellow faces. No angry middle class. Any help?

You sure you were doing this to the middle class? There is no nobility in a republic, so the middle class is the upper level.

The cool thing about constitutional monarchies is there is no lower class to make angry, which means you can turn every town into a steam powered water/iron mill and not worry about happiness.

So it seems the political evolution as defined by ETW is

    Absolute--> republic--> constitutional monarchy

Not Absolute--> constitutional--> republic which I thought made more sense.

Well come to think about it constitutional monarchies around the world do tend to be stable and happy, more so than the republics.

Well historically its makes sense the ETW way, as in the case of GB it was: absolute monarch -> over thrown to a Republican type of government although not technically a republic-> to re-instating a monarch but keeping the elected government and thusly turning into a constitutional monarchy.

I believe it was a similar process in Sweden.

I hear someone say that if you get both classes to revolt then you'll get a con monarchy, is this true?

    It ain't.

@ Caralampio, with Republic if you get lower classes revolt, you will switch goverment officials but not goverment type. Same happens when nobility revolts in Absolute monarchy.

To have a constitutional monarch, you need to have a republic and make the higher classes revolt.
To do that you just made what you did that make the lower classes revolt, when you had an absolute monarchy:

    Destory buildings that gives happyness.

    Remove army from region.

Raise taxes to max(only for the higher classes, you want them only to revolt).

Remove from the goverment ministers that gives happyness bonus to higher classes(do that only if all the others did not work).

I think its all you need to make them revolt.
