Um, you do know the reason the US propped up Israel in the Cold War was because Israel's enemies were propped up by the Soviet Union, and the US would prop up anyone who might fight the evil commies for them.

Same thing in South Vietnam, South Korea, Afghanistan: anyone who wants to fight the communists in the Cold War got support from the US.

Now the US is just allies with Israel because politicians are too afraid to lose the Florida Israeli supporting vote. They have no strategic reason to be allies with Israel at all, if anything Israel makes tons of enemies for them.

Actually, Israel recieved weapons from the USSR during it's war of indipendence. Stalin thought that Israel will become a socialist/communist state so he sent in the weapons.

That was before Egypt, Syria and the rest became part of the Soviet sphere of influence. The superpowers always picked sides to start a proxy war. Of course they would have tried to make Israel a communist state, they tried to make EVERY state communist.

Before the 1950s Egypt and the rest of the region had been most influenced by Britain and France. It was just beginning to end then.
