I am looking at modding my single player game, at present I am looking and using the smoke and blood mod. besides that mod, which other ones should I look in to getting? I would prefer a more realistic game play.

No. Not really. But DarthMod Empire is the best ETW mod out there in my own opinion.Do some research on that and see if you like it, if you haven't already

Not any faction, but many of them.

Empire Total Factions allows you to play as any faction from the beginning.

I like it, but what bother me is that it adds a lot of repression from government and buildings, to help the IA if I understand correctly, and so dealing with public order is too easy for my taste.

Is there any mod that improves the diplomatic and campaign IA without altering that point ?

You should concentrate on wars with factions, not with rebels which recruit only crappy and vanilla armies.

Try taking a country's capital. You will find that you will need to expend a lot of effort to keep it under your control for a long time.

As for other AI mods, you could try Luntiks, but I've no idea if it mods this at all or in what way.
