Default Total War Is Not, And Never Will Be, Made For Consoles

Plain and simple people, Total War is NOT a console game. You see what happened when Civ went to the console? I don't know about you, but the gameplay was crappy when it wasn't on my computer.

There is no way in heck that CA will ever (or should) make a Total War game for the console, there is just too many complications involved and can you imagine playing Total War on a console with only 12 or so buttons?

People who want Total War on a console for whatever crazy reason, please give up now and save yourself the dissapointment. I say again, Total War is not made for consoles, and never will (or should).

I'm not entirely sure this required a separate post.

The hands of man have fashioned many wondrous things. You can even mod a console to take a USB keyboard and mouse that wasnt even meant for it. Very simple. So where is your console hate now?

Its not that I hate consoles, I just can't see Total War as a console game and actually working out ok. >_>

If you want to spend the money for all that crap then fine, but I still think making Total War a console game to be rubbish.

This is not about Controllers vs Mouse and Keyboard.

This is about PC's which are continously getting better vs 2005 outdated hardware. Consoles would limit the game so much compared to PC. I feel a lot of you don't understand what designing the game on console would mean, please look up the specifications of a console.

I hate consoles and they really are the poor mans gaming system. The fact so many people still play Halo3 which is very average and no match for the numerous FPS's on PC shows the quality of console games.

You can use any keyboard and mouse with the PS3. As long as it's USB and not PS/2 that is.

consoles are the perfect capitalistic tool, so much that they will sell items that are ment to break and require add on's with vast amounts of game availability. then every 4-6 years you have to pay double for a new upgraded console that requires you to re-buy everything at a higher price. Consoles are just fast and better ways to take money from people at a pace far faster then pc. Consoles are only good for non-rts games and i dislike their first person shooters.

Leave it to the modder to perfect the works of the paid developers for no profit at all.

However to keep a "gaming" is absurdly expensive, it is much cheaper to buy a console, and I doubt you would notice the quality difference on most games. However computer games tend to have much more replayability then console games, thus for most people there would be no need to keep their comp on the cutting edge, and they can merely pay a couple of hundred bucks every 3 years for a hardware update. I myself am not a big fan of consoles due to the fact that their ONLY purpose is gaming, I just cant sped 400$ on an object whose only purpose is to keep me inside staring at a screen. Computers on the other hand have many applications other than gaming, gaming just happens to be a nice extra. I also didnt know you could stick a mouse and keyboard on consoles, that actualy makes games like ETW possible on consoles, however I believe that games like the total war series and Civ will have little appeal to your average console gamer, no offence meant here but most rts games that have come out on console's have not done very well, and while this is quite likely because of the reduced quality of the UI, I believe that such game's have less appeal to truly devoted console players. Once again I do not mean to offend anyone by this post, these are just the opinions that I personaly have formulated.

Honestly it is amusing but tiring to hear so many rants, opps I mean arguments, about pc vs console games. The same arguments over and over. After encountering many such arguments I feel many have rather an elitist view of pc gaming.

The button scheme used in medieval total war 2 or rome total war is not exactly complicated. This is not like a real rts where speed is of the essence. The total war series is turnbased real time strategy. The campaign map doesnt require much buttons either. Real RTS games it is harder because everything is timed and shortcuts/hotkeys are more necessary. So of any pc RTS game teh total war series can be more easily replicated into a console game.

Personally, I dont play a wide variety of games. I did play left for dead a couple of months ago frequently. (like some 48,000 kills) I play halo 3 occasionly. On PC I only play civilization 4 or Medieval 2/Rome Total war. My power supply went out and cant play on my other computer so no empire total war for now.

there are no consoles right now that cost $400. The xbox (likely ps3 console as well) can connect to the network and can access media files, play dvds, and play games. While certainly your home computer is more versatile but consoles are not exactly one dimensional. There has and will be even greater effort on Sony and Microsoft to make a true entertainment system that can have a place in any home.

"Replayability" is in the eyes of the beholder. Generally the use of mods and the like increase the replay value of most games. But who knows...maybe in the future that will even find its way into console gaming. I do believe there has been some attempts already. There are still every evening 300,000 people playing halo 3 online despite being released a year and a half ago.

I wonder what you are doing with your current pc if not staring at a screen all the time.

    This entire argument is silly.

Consoles lack the basic power to run TW games well. The minimum requirements for Empire are

    • CPU: 2.6Ghz single core processor
    • RAM: 1GB RAM (2GB for Vista)
    • Graphics: a DirectX 9.0c card with 256mb RAM

An Xbox 360 or PS3 could not run this game properly on the lowest settings.

i think people would spend more on consoles/utilities within 10 years then on a pc/utilities because of longevity and performance.

I completely and absolutely agree that RTS games will not and never will be for consoles. Ever.

Thank you for stating this, maybe now we can decrease the amount of "Total War 4 C0ns0l3s threads"

The PS3/360 would fail at running ETW anyways.

I could see a Total War console spin off. Maybe where you have the basic campaign map, then when you go into a battle you have the normal deployment, But heres the twist. When you start the battle, you can control a commander or general in the fight. Thats the only way i could see it working.
