Default Infantry taking cover behind walls

    Hello chaps!

I have a little problem, any ideas if there's a way to solve it?

You can order infantry to take cover behind stone walls, and this adds a whole new aspect to the tactics of total war games. However, i' not entirely sure why, but now when i order foot troops to take cover behind a wall, they sit there like lemons and if i'm lucky, one man in a 120 man company will fire his musket. This means that the foe standing in the open but firing full volleys achieves more than my company that is taking cover. Any ideas if this is fixable? Cheers!

This is a common problem, because the AI has less mental capacity than that of a mentally challenged two year old

currently, well until a fix is released, i reckon use a unit as a fly trap. Draw as much enemy musket and cannon fire. So other men may live.

From what I've read, it seems that simply positioning your men behind a wall as you usually would will both give you some of the defence bonus of the wall while still allowing your men to fire.

Especially when they're sitting down to reload

Yes, like most things in ETW, its broken.

The flip side though is that when the AI hides behind a wall they will allow you to flank them, without ever turning around to fight you. So it makes killing AI very easy when they hide behind walls. Its like they got sucked into a trance as soon as they reach the magical wall.

If you got "fire by rank" researched do not place em behind walls, because it just wont work.
Instead use Milita troops for wall cover, and im not 100% sure but i think the light infranty units can use the cover pretty good aswell.

Basicly only place units that dont use fire by rank behind a wall.

That seem to do the trick for me.

fyi - you take less dmg behind a wall, but you also do less dmg (im pretty sure!).

Isn't 'fire by rank' a button so you can turn the ability on/off in-game? It's fairly straight forward to make sure it's off when a unit is behind a wall?

No, you're thinking of Fire & Advance. I wish it was toggleable though, along with platoon fire.
