    Default What the hell happened?

Hey the game was running FINE. I have been out of town for two weeks and have not turned on or touched my computer. I come back today and go to start Empire and play a game and I get "Steam has a found a problem with your local game file. Game files will now be re-acquired from the steam servers". Ok and Cancel are my options.

I press Ok and the same thing keeps popping up. Cancel and nothing happens?

What the hell. I am not going to deal with this aggrivation. I am sending a letter for my money back if this doesn't work, I should NOT go away for business for two weeks and come back and have a game not work.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I tried to delete local content but it said "not enough memory to run the game" (I have over 110 gigs free)

Now it says "download starting" but nothing is happening....

    memory = RAM

Hard drive= Space - IE not enough hard drive space to run the game

    Try restarting

Yep about a dozen times. I have now turned off my firewall and anti-virus and it still says "download starting...."

I'll give it a couple hours like that. But it had better work. I have seriously delt with enough crap trying to get this game installed in the begginning of march. It worked fine for about 50 hours of gameplay over three weeks. I leave like MArch 22nd and come back today and now it doesnt work at all? How is that possible?

thats happened to me before, says download starting... IT IS downloading just not properly updating the percentage.(steam for ya...)

My suggestion if you dont have the disc, just let it run.

Ya thats what I figured, and I have the disks but when I tried to remove local content it said "not enough space to run the game?". I have 120 gigs I should be fine.

I figured there may have been a patch since the 22nd which is why im leaving it on. I'll leave it on all night.

But if it doesn work tomorrow after I get some work done, im taking it back.

I'm not paying 50$ for a damn beta, and I am not a computer expert. I satisfy the min specs and I have played before, it should be working now.

    Thanks for your help.

Is the 120Gb all on the same hard drive?

Did you install steam to the 'C' drive?

What operating system are you using?

If you are going to ask for some technical help please include some technical detail.

yea i was going to ask that.

Steam installs the games where steam is installed.

So if you install steam on d: drive its going to install all games on d:

If you want take a screen shot of your mycomputer and upload it to imageshack.us

Maybe we can see something you arnt.

    Example-

Haha honestly I don't know how to do that. Everything is on drive C, because that is the only drive I have.

Still says that "Download starting" but nothing is happening. I'll leave it on all night.

Ok here is the issue: Right now whenever I start the computer it is now saying "download starting".... and does nothing else.

In addition any attempt to play the game will result in a message saying "Steam has a found a problem with your local game file. Game files will now be re-acquired from the steam servers" and an option to click ok or cancel. Cancel of course brings me right back to where I started from and if I click ok I just get the ok message again.

Lastly if I try to uninstall local content either on or offline it says you have insiginifcant space to run this game and does nothing. That is rubbish, I have over 120 gigs of free space.

I have no idea what to do

Well Steam is currently too busy to handle my request..... So I think its a steam issue.

I'm just going to wait until tomorrow to mess with this any further. I'm at my computer limit.

Some people have suggested trying to install during the off-peak time int he USA - 10am to 4pm (Central Time).

Also, if you post back in a thread it's best to edit the previous post (this will eventually be picked up by a moderator). If you want someone to know that the post has been edited or update start the changes with 'EDITED:' or 'UPDATE'.

Edited: (Not done on purpose) What have you done with User Access Control (UAC). For a write up of this ad other Vista things have a read of the first and last links in the first post in this link: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=167821

Well I deleted everything having to do with steam. And reinstalled with my disks, and suprisingly everything went well with the disk installation. After installation it has dowloaded all updates and works fine.

Now I am in the process of putting my steam games back together. I have no idea what happened but as of now everything is fine. I'm not deleting steam again though, so hopefully this doesn't happen again!

    Thanks everyone for the help
