Icon4 Stop cancelling the Trade Treaty!

Prussia, I was able to get Sweden to a trade treaty with 1300 gold demand. the next turn they cancel it for no reason. i offer a treaty again and charge them 1300, they accept again! next turn they ended the treaty again! i was able to get a treaty until their coffer ran dry 7 turns later.

it seem that what cause them to accept a trade deal and cancel one is different. i wonder if my expansionism is nuffing my treaty but it is just funny the AI would offer me free money because it will still accept a treaty the next turn.

this also makes it impossible to offer AI a treaty with an offer of gold since you would know if it will cancel the deal immediately. i miss CIV where by treaty can only be cancel after a certain period for both AI and Human, they should draw ideas from other diplomacy game cause it is not easy and there others has already found solution for them.

Well lets put it this way, the Diplomatic AI is terrible to begin with.

I've been playing as Prussia and am on year 1759 (I think, been a while since my game keeps crashing I've stopped playing it).

I've managed to make Westphalia a Protectorate, I've conquered Austria, Poland, Venice and am working on mainland France. All the Germanic States besides one of them is allied to me and I have trade relationships with all of them. Now, Württemberg is allied with Westphalia. But I can't get Württemberg to go Very Friendly no matter how much money I gift them. I can't get them to become a protectorate, I can't get them to ally with me... nothing. I don't want to just take them over as I've tried to be peaceful the whole campaign... but it's almost like lights are on, but no one's home.

Kind of reminds me of the poster that mentioned he gave 230K to a nation who were allied to his allied nations, to try to befriend them, and their status never changed and neither did their Wealth Status... I mean... can we say BROKEN system?!

The AI does not always do that, only if they do not like you, he is extorting you, which is a very human trait, I would congratulate the AI on this one.

Reread his post. The AI is giving HIM money every turn for a treaty and then breaking it, and then giving him more money again and breaking it.

Player: Trade? We both get a win-win situation.
AI: No, we're all content and enlightened. We'll only consider earning more money if you pay us.

Same goes with 'friends'. Too random, you can have the AI bright green with you, and they'll still give you the finger when you ask for trade.

I think they tend to cancel trade when they're hostile with you. I'm more amazed the OP actually made the AI pay for a trade treaty, it's usually the other way around...

    Sirvulf:
You can only get +100 relation with state gifts IIRC. It's set like that to prevent ppl from buying their way out all the time, not a bug per se. Also, here are the conditions where you can make somebody a protectorate: 1. they have only one region 2. sometimes you have to declare war, then the protector option will show. BTW i think protectorates cannot have allies, so Westphalia shouldn't be allied to Wurttemburg anymore.

On protectorates I think the most annoying thing about them is they stay at war with whoever they are fighting.

I instigated a huge coalition against Spain, personally conquered all of their land (except Spain itself) and then forced them to surrender and become a protectorate. But they are still at war with every other nation.

    Shouldn't work that way.

    Well, It really should.

You are thinking the protectorate is a vassal. The two are utterly different. The protectorate pays you for protection ( and can do what ever it wants, IT PAYS YOU HALF ITS INCOME EVERY TURN for your protection.), while a vassal is a people you conquered that you let govern themselvs.

Your acting as a body gaurd.

Lol!! I also have this problem with Sweden while playing as Prussia. I'm starting to think that their king, Karl or something, have a trait called "nonsensical outburst" and that is why he does random things. Or maybe the AI is stupid.

I love it when they offer to buy one of your regions for like 500 florins....every single time it is their turn for the entire game.

I love it when you get one from them for free, then they cancel it and immediately come back asking for another one and demanding some ridiculous fee from you the next turn.

This isn't so unbelievable, is it? Here the AI clearly thinks that you're benefiting more from the trade than him, so its only fair that you cough up a bit, and if you don't want to, then tough. It's the OP's situation that is ridiculous from a logical point of view.

Same thing happened to cept they asked me for money (same amount only 300) which I accepted then the next turn they cancel the treaty then the following turn offer the same deal this time for 400 which i decline. This went on for quite a lot of turns which I continued to decline except the ai kept increase the ducat demand by 200-300 each time. Eventually my patience wore off when they asked for 13000 ducats.

I had the same issue with Austria as Prussia. They kept asking for 4000 "gold" and trade rights, then the next turn they just canceled it. They repeated this over 5 times until I was just fed up and declared war. Flippin Austrians.

Playing as Prussia, it happend to me too - and not only with Sweden, but also with UP. I did not demand money - they simply cancelled trade rights in one turn and ask for them again in the next one. And this was continuing for 8 turns or so... I finally gave them a state gift to stop it.

In many cases it's a normal reaction if you have blocked a sea trade line for more than 1 turn.
