Default Help me with this battle! Er rather quickly please :-)

Quick story - I hate the Mughal Empire (see other thread) who turned on me once I emptied my armies out of India. Well now I'm back and going to eliminate them. With extreme prejudice!

Have just been attacked at one of my capitals and pulled off a magnificent defence (outnumbered at about 3:2) but... now I'm stuck!

I've attached a pic - this is the only enemy unit left on the battlefield. As you can see, half is in, half is out. I can't attack it, or select it, or do anything with it.

I'm not sure it even truly entered the battlefield. I've had no cannon fire on my walls I think.

There is no time limit on my battles (I prefer it that way) so... what can I do???

That looks like an ammo carriage. Once an artillery breaks, the ammo carriage runs away and cannot be attacked. The horses might die if they get in a crossfire or something but you can't select them directly as targets. Now how that carriage came to be there, and why it doesn't move... Probably a bug.

Huh....odd. Can you move your men there to initiate a melee?

If you had some artillery I'd say manually target the spot but you don't have any....shoulda brough some.

I just tried to move my men to stand next to them, but they basically stood there patting the horses and having their photos taken.

Guess it must be a bug in which case I have to exit out I guess.

I tend not to have artillery in city defences Lubeck - may just have been a bad experience for me first time I had them but they were pretty useless in that scenario.

And Palandiell - nope haven't won yet. I was wondering what the situation is with hidden troops? Could there be some of them? I've had my horses running around the groups of trees but no luck finding any yet.

I had this bug happen to me. You can only exit and lose the battle...

The solution is to find the men who belonged to it. The horses rout, but the actual artillery men are still on the field. So you have to find them and kill them. I recommend you zoom in all the way with the map and look for some red dots. That'll be them. Even if there is no flag.

have you won the battle? i dont see any troops still alive so if you have already won the battle, you can exit it

Usualy it's like guerra said above. If it's not the case then well, the only way is to exit the battle but that means you losing it. That's why I always activate the one hour time limit, since this bug happened quite a few time for me in MTW II.

Right well I decided to run the battle again thanks to a convenient autosave and... the exact thing happened again. With the exact same units in the same location.

I am defending so there is no rush to attack these units. I'm very much stationed inside my city and letting them come onto me.

This is an "intercept" battle - so I have the choice to ignore them... which I will....

But if I did exit the battle, I'd lose.... what does that mean - will I lose the city?

And in an intercept battle, if time runs out, who is classed as "the winner"?

In an intercept the one who intercepted is classed as the defender, the attacker, in this case the AI, has to defeat you to pass or retreat.

My advice is to not attack the cannon in the whole battle, wait until the rest of the army has routed and then march up to the cannon, without firing.
Totally surround the unit and let rip, you should be able to kill the horses in the crossfire.
Or make the unit instantly rout at which point you can "End Battle".

    Kazang,
How can I let rip when there is nothing to target? There's no equivalent of a bombard ground feature here is there?

As I said before I marched my 120 strong Linemen up and they just stood there next to them.

I noticed when I started again that unit only starts with 2 men? Perhaps that's a cause of this?

Do it before the unit is damaged so the horse do not run off and get stuck..... Then shoot at the cannon, the gun crew.
DO NOT SHOOT THE GUN CREW/CANNON BEFORE THE REST OF THE ARMY HAS ROUTED.

Make the unit rout at the right time, ie when it is the last one left.

    Then you can "End battle"
Do no continue to run down the routers or they will get stuck again

well i had a simulair bug like this 2 days ago later on i found out the trick was that aperently they weren't standing outside of the area just the images were there and they were frozen try looking around the map to find the "real" enemies instead of these "holgrams" (just move around having a unid selected waiting till the attack buttens change )

I had a similar bug today as well. A horde of camels was split up and i couldn't attack-click either group, nor would my units autofire. I was however able to rush my units around those camels and the soldiers that "touched" the camels were engaging in hand to hand (all others were just standing around though).

always, always have a battle time limit. The amount of times in mid two where the game stalled because the a i froze in place when besieging taught me that lesson.
