I would be cautious in buying the game on e-bay. There are a lot of people who bought the game and aren't happy with it. You will more than likely get one of these games that is already activated on steam.
They really nipped the resale value thing in the bud didn't they. Doesn't feel legal.
well that sucks, i usually buy my games off ebay =(, any way to get it cheaper than 50 bucks..^_^

Most defintely doesn`t feel legal. It`s another thing about ETW that sits ill with me. It`s like you have to sign your soul to the devil and once you do, you`re chained forever. I always liked the freedom to return a game because a, it was crap or b, I was fnished with it, but now I`m chained to it. I had Fear2, played it finished singleplayer in a weekend. Now it sits in the attic collecting dusts unreturnable, unlike the first Fear. No one else can enjoy it. Why do I have to keep a game i`m no longer interested in forever?
Don`t like it, don`t feel good. I want the freedom to keep or resell the game as I wish.
Incidentally, I have every Total War (except RTW) in my collection, all kept voluntarily. ETW however sits in the attic like a curse because I feel forced to keep something that I would normally return to the store and maybe buy back 6 months later when fixed. I have £40 of my cash sat in the attic doing nothing.
Some of you won`t get it though.

Avoid it on Ebay - unless they're advertising a new/sealed copy it's A) Unlikely to be playable given they'll have used the key and B) You won't have many options to use buyers protection unless it's sealed as advertised. If it isn't you can claim you weren't getting the advertised product basically![]()

I think I remember this same discussion about Half Life 2 back in the day. A post I read stated that if you were not able to register the game for whatever reason, contacting Steam would resolve it. Steam forums may help on this.
That said, I still wouldn't take the chance - who knows how long it will take them to sort it out?
yes the ETW installed successfully, its all good ^_^, only 29 bucks for me too
You bought it off Ebay? You took a big risk there.
To Klesh, sure if a game was rubbish and I knew in the first day or two I could get it back for an exchange. If I finished the game in two days (because it was ridiculously short) I might do in that case, but it doesn`t happen much.
I don`t often get a refund, because I want a game so just get a different one. however, every now and then they`ll give me a refund with a receipt.
Even then if I can`t get rid of it cos I kept it too long, I can take it to the 3 or 4 PC game second-hand shops in my local area and sell it it for half the price.
This is in Britain, btw, not America, which seems to have much tighter rules.
Of course, Steam blows all of this now.
