Default Just how much advantage do I get from AP weapons?

I know they are good against armor but to what effect? How does it work? Does it get better as the armor get heavier or does heavy armor tend to lessen the effect? Somebody clear this up for me...

They halve the armour of the enemy, so 18 armour becomes 9, as an example.

Imagine the poor stats of vikings raiders became very efective vs full armored DFK because their axes AP.Other very interesting things when Lancers of France became killed by Gothic Knights counterparts because their maces AP.

    Thanks,

That makes me realize the value of axe and mace equipped units-expecially late in the game when just about every unit is uparmored.

It was removed from missile weapons but left in for melee weapons.

What happens if there's a half point though? 5 armor is 2.5 does that mean they actually have 3 armor?
