Default Consistent crashing since an update today

    Hi,
I'm new to these forums, but I have had the game since it came out. I've had non-stop issued with crashing to desktop. However the last few days it had been running fine.
Since steam downloaded something today I have had crash after crash after crash. I'm getting well and truly fed up.
I've bought the Empire Total War special Forces Edition.
Is there anything I can do? I have set it to run at a higher priority in the processes tab of Task Manager, I'd run a work around to increase the sytem resources available to it. It's not working. Just since an update on Steam a few hours ago.

    System Specs:
    Intel E7200 2.5GHz
    4.0 gig of RAM
    nVidia Geforce 280GTX Graphics card
    Onboard Realtek soundcard.
    Vista 32 Bit.

Fair enough. Something seems to have happened today though. It worked quite well (except for losing sounds occasionally) from 30th up until today. I've had one crash saying the video card was out of resources, and the rest just crashed with no explanation, generally after a battle other times during. It's particularly annoying as I'm winning at the time...wouldn't be so bad if I was losing! lol.

If the message that you are referring to is 'insufficient video memory' have a look at the following fix posted by madboris - it's a stickied thread. You will need to re-apply this fix after each patch - until the problem is solved by a patch. I've been using the fix for a week or so now.

Ok, thanks for that. I've had that message once today. The rest of the time it just crashed with no reason given.

It's such a shame as the game seems to have so much potential. I was really into Rome Total War and that is why I bought this game. I just feel like I have not got anywhere near what I paid for or got anything near the hype.

I can see that you've got a GTX280 - the fix I posted should be used for the insufficient memory problem. If you start removing some problems maybe some of the other ones won't happen (maybe).

I've managed to get a Swedish campaign all the way through to 1826. I did have one CTD caused by an admiral. As soon as I clicked on his fleet I got a CTD. I waited until he died then I could use his fleet again.

The campaign map did slow down very badly but I just restarted the game and it was back to normal.

I am hoping after a number of decent patches the game will be running better. I am really going to wait for the full blown mods to be released for this - at least each faction won't be similar in so many ways. The potential is there for a decent mod (he said hopefully).
