    Default Importing Models/Meshes ?

    Hi

Is it possible to import models/Meshes into empire from a 3d rendering / modelling program (aka, 3dmax) or from another steam Game (Aka, Half Life 2),

I have looked on the forum and couldn’t get a decisive Yes or No. probably just wasn’t looking in the right place but is you can help, that would be cool

Sorry if this is posted some where else but I haven’t been able to find it

    As of yet, we can't.

There is a basic tool that a member here has created for viewing the ingame models and converting them to .X (DirectX format), but no 3d program that I know of can IMPORT .X, only export, the creator of the tool, Just, said he might add .3ds and .obj support, when he figures out how.

The converter is only one-way at the moment, he said it is proving far more difficult to convert the models back, because not all of the model's structure is known. (Bone assignment, shaders and other components.)

The only way we will truelly be able to add new models to the game is for CA to give us the exporter they used, or for someone to write export scripts, and the chances of that are unlikely at the moment.

I just hope they do give us an exporter, or someone can cobble one together.

Don't know much about this stuff, but this program can import and export .x:

Just tried it and it works.

Caligari trueSpace also allows importing objects from .X files. (Model, TS6 Files, Load, Object). From trueSpace you can save as Collada (.dae) so you can open it in 3DS Max and other applications.
    trueSpace is a free program.

Ok, got it working now, but the .X wasn't in the same folder as the textures, so Truespace couldn't find them. I'll try again.

Haven´t tried this yet, but can you change elements of models like you could in medieval with milkshape and the mesh converter of (don´t know his name anymore, someone from TWcenter anyway)?
