Installing problems

Have the special forces box set, did the steam reg thing all fine, but installation is stuck on"creating local game cache files"section..the loading dots are moving in the box but it isn't moving past this screen?

Where is Steam installed and how much free disc space do you have? What operating system are you using? Please provide some technical details.

running xp on my pc have bucket loads of free space left steam is installed in c drive.. have tryed to re-install 4 times same thing happens and the creating loacal game cache screen..the loading box dots are moving but nothing else happens for like an hour + I left it,my speeds have been cut back to dial up speed at the moment? would that have somthing to do with it or is it somthing else?

Yes, it sounds like you have plenty of free space. Some people (like me) are using Vista. I presume you have administrator rights and the ability to write to the various folders that XP uses (I would hope that there would be a warning)?

The dial up speeds may have an affect on the install but I'm not sure what happens during the 'create local game cache'.

I've read somewhere else that the loading game bars (in steam) are not to be believed.

If you don't pay for the connect time on the internet I'd suggest letting it run even overnight. It does sound like something is wrong though.

Edited: If you do an advanced search in this forum you will find a large number of posts about problems with the local cache. Some of them suggest trying to install during off peak hours (10am - 4pm US Central time).

i am getting the same prob, am using windows xp, sp 2, 27 gb free in drive d: and steam also in d:

The install will use up space on the 'C' drive (I think - certainly for Vista).
