Found on the official forums, proof of naval (or navel according to the poster) invasions do take place in the game.
I'm guessing that's what the game looks like on ultra.

Well that is undeniable evidence. I guess the AI in my campaigns just has not yet "decided" to use ships to transport troops yet.
Actually I want to use this opportunity to illustrate the difference between naval and navel invasions. Lets settle this once and for all OK?
