Icon4 Possible solution to locked up games

FYI - Hopefully this can help someone - I was recently able to recover one of my "locked up" campaigns by reloading a saved game from several turns prior, and the only way I could get it to progress was to just hit "End Turn" without making any troop or agent moves until I had passed the year the lock up occurred. So for example, if the fail occurred at 1727, I would reload around 1724 and just keep hitting end turn until 1728. This worked for me. I know it sucks but it is better than having to completely restart a campaign, especially if you are close to finishing.

If this has already been mentioned, Mods, please delete it.

Well yeah...that's a typical solution to this kind of repeatable crashes.

Well, I only posted it because of all the complaints about not being able to continue a campaign due to it locking/crashing during the AI's turn.

Thanks, Thanatos. I should have known better.

So this is the only possible solution to a game-breaking bug?

Simply save your game on every turn and if you freeze up, load that save and be forced to do nothing on that turn?

Someone please tell me this isn't a joke.

I agree completely, it is pathetic. I have attempted 3 separate campaigns so far and have not been able to complete a single one due to this game breaking issue. On my current campaign I have had to use the described method, above, twice just to continue my game and I am only at 1752. And yeah, you pretty much have to save every turn just to play it safe.

This is so frustrating. I has just spend the last 2 days playing a grand campaign, fighting huge battles, negotiating, building, researching, and now the campaign is unplayable due to this bug. 1737 and in the Inuit turn the game CTDs. That sucks!

This isn't a solution, it's a workaround to avoid the problem occurring. It won't fix existing bugged saves which is what we need. =(

True, solution may have been a poor choice of words. However, the purpose of this post was to provide people with an opportunity to attempt to continue a game that consistently fails during the AI's turn. This is just an attempt to help - I make no promises or guarantees, and I admit that it is a rather poor workaround.

Some people are actually grateful for help. Doesn't matter if you call it solution or workaround.

    + rep for the idea.

If the locked up game means that the whole PC is locked up and requires a power off and you use Vista - I suggest you run the Event Viewer. I am getting a WMI error with an event id of 10. This has nothing to do with ETW as it happens to other games as well.
