    Default Ambushes gone?

Were ambushes removed for ETW? That was a great equalizer when playing as a weak nation defending against a stronger one, but it seems they don't exist anymore. I did notice, however, there was one American general who had some sort of ambush-related trait.

I myself have not used ambushes until now in E:TW but I am almost certain that it is still exists. Have you tried it? Maybe you need that trait you mentioned so your general would be able to ambush.

There is still a form of ambush since armies have control zones. But I do not think you can hide anymore.

You can hide. 'Paths seldom trod' as an attribute helps with ambushes.

The natives tend to be the most ambushy of armies, as I think all their units have that attribute.

    I've been ambushed by native-americans.

Seems it's just as useless as in MTW2 however. It should be like teutoberg forest, if anyone remembers that from RTW. It's bogus that my men start a few hundred meters from the enemy.

I never saw natives hide on the campaign map.
In battle yes you can easily ambush.

in battle the natives pop up in front of you when you least expect it and has messed up my strategy plan alot. I hate fighting the natives, seems their good at flanking too, since they can sneak around you without you even seeing them

What I am speaking of, just for clarification, is setting an army in a heavily wooded area on the campaign map, where they go into ambush mode. If the ambush is successful, you get to deploy troops all around them, and they do not get to deploy, but rather start in a marching column. I used to devastate with this in M2TW playing as Scotland in the Kingdoms expansion. I did notice the comment from someone that they started their ambush from several hundred meters away, which royally sucks , as that defeats the whole purpose of ambushing. I'm really disappointed that ambushing only seems to be possible for armies with mostly troops with the "paths seldom trod" trait. Troops with that trait are most skirmishers and natives...boo!

i have been ambushed many times by red indians, its a huge, mega like epic bonus for them cause any faction with line infantry dont have time to set up for line or rank fire

It makes sense for ambushes to play only a tiny part in 18th century warfare. For only lights, irregulars, and the lightest of horse troops to have the ability is fine.

Well, it makes sense for 18th century EUROPEAN armies to not use ambush so much...however, in the American theatre that was a dominant form of attack...also in a gameplay sense, it equalizes stronger and weaker nations to some degree, and forces the player to use reconnaissance to detect possible ambushes...

Sometimes I send a sacrificial light infantry or native auxiliary unit ahead of my main army now when campaigning in America.

I had my florida invasion army almost completely wiped by a full stack ambush by the Cherokee. I eventually beat them back, but they had another stack in florida, and I had lost 1200 of my 2000+ men, so I had to turn around and regroup.

an entire amry of mine was ambushed, it was still in column of line and I couldn't deploy when the battle started, was a pain, because their cavalry was in my artillery as soon as the battle started.

You can still ambush u just need troops with the ability to be able to.
Your whole army must have that ability or u can't ambush. meaning u must have an entirly light infantry army.

Ambushes are definetly still here. I was tricked by the Huron AI they had full stack at border for a while then they pull over a puny stack of 3 or 4 and then the full stack ran off behind FoW near the coast so I started to push out thinking it is safe I took on the huron small stack killed it and my rake by their city saw all clear so I pressed onward and it cost me a great army for they ambushed me from the woods and before I could line up there massive army of mainly cav tore my column formations a new one.

I had the same faction do the same thing to me.

I even reloaded and moved my priest to where they were, but nothing
