Default APPCRASH (after starting up game)

    Hi.
I have problems with my empire game.
Problem started after deleting some mod files in the data map of etw. Before that the game worked fine together with some small mod (proper empire mod, spain mod and smoke and sound mod).

After deleting some mod files, doing a restart of the game i got the message below (dutch version). I uninstalled the whole game, and reinstalled it again, same error.

Uninstalled again, reboot, removed manually the etw folder, and reinstalled again the game. reboot, and starting again, but same error.

Whats causing this? Who can help me out?

    Are you on XP?

If so, that's more of an error report than we get on Vista.

But I have a feeling that's what we'd get if Vista would show one.

Anyway, this sounds like the problem I was having yesterday.

What's happening is that these patches have screwed up the preferences file which is located here:

    for XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name Here)\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts

    for Vista:
    C:\Users\(Your User Name Here)\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts

Try deleting the preferences.empire_script.txt file and then restarting the game to see if that fixes the problem. The game will create a new one upon reloading. And everything should be fixed.

HaHa! I just got a Windows Solution notification about my crashes yesterday and this is what it reports:

    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: Empire.exe
    Application Version: 1.0.0.0
    Application Timestamp: 49ccc981
    Fault Module Name: Empire.exe
    Fault Module Version: 1.0.0.0
    Fault Module Timestamp: 49ccc981
    Exception Code: c0000005
    Exception Offset: 00b03a0f
    OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033

    Additional Information 3: fd00
    Additional Information 4: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160
    So it's very similar.

But what I did, is I deleted the whole AppData folder for Empire which unfortunately holds the Saved Games, but I wanted to make sure I got everything 'Empire' off my PC.

So when I reinstalled the game for the 3rd time it finally worked.

You just need to know where to look. Click the windows 'start' box. In the dialogue box where 'start search' is type 'event viewer' (without the quotes).

    I solved the problem!

(I am using vista), i looked for the folder AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\
You can find it also by using the search option in the start menu and search
    for; Appdata

After that i removed the preferences files as Lincoln did,
    and it worked!
    Thanks.

Damn I finally found preferences_empire_script txt file and deleted it...same problem. Should I delete the whole AppData folder and reinstall ? Stupid Steam ETW Vista...I'm going down the pub if this doesn't work.

Well, that's what I ultimately did. Removed everything 'Empire' from my PC and reinstalled. Fixed the problem. Not only did loading problem go away...but sound problem is near back to normal too. It's still not quite right, but I'd say it's about 95% corrected.

Has anyone solved their in-battle CTD this way? By wiping all Empire content and reinstalling?
